OK, time for a proper (Sjors approved) update.

As reported, the main and fore lower yards are now in place.  I've added the brace pendants, trusses and lanyards between the thimbles .

Here's what's really fun about this kit (thanks to Chuck).  When you put in a thimble, block or sheave way back on page 6 [without any concept of why you're doing it], when you get to page 116 and go looking for that item, it's already there!!!!!!  Really folks, these plans/instructions are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

In addition, the inboard main couse sheets and braces have been fixed to the bulwarks with about a mile of line waiting to be attached later (see above).

We've just hit 1300 hours into  the build, adhering to my motto 'I may not be any good, but I am slow'.

Will be finishing up jeers, lifts, leech/buntlines before moving on to the topsail yards.  Between shoveling snow, planting tomatoes (unusual, but this is Colorado) and an upcoming family visit we may be somewhat becalmed here.  But there's always time to do something.

    All stay well.

I think that you'll find these little discrepancies in every kit.   it's all in whether or not you see them right away,  and whether or not the problem is dealt with,  if discovered early enough.  believe me.......I'm the first one to say that.   it's in our quest to create that 'jaw-dropping'   build..........so many are 'there'.........and...so many are not far behind.   I'm even sure that a lot of you have undertaken a kit that exceeds your expertise level......I know I've got one going.  but this is expected of us,  if not,  encouraged.  it's how we will expand our knowledge,  as we venture in the quest.   I enjoy what I see.........I see learning........I see technique.......I see what will shape up,  to be his or her masterpiece.   may not be this one........but keep watching.....the duckling....WILL become a swan     Keep up the good work Sjors..........things may not come out the way you want them........but it's still an empressive build.   superb!

    Hello, Sjors!

I apologize for a little overdue answer, there were urgent affairs.  Both in any matter, and in shipbuilding, there are fundamental basic principles and rules. That I wrote about the correct arrangement of shroud plate and shroud just belongs to such rules. These rules for the sailing ships (regardless of the name - Le Mirage or Fantom or somehow differently  ) are described in many books about construction of the ships and models. How to arrive in such cases - to follow the established rules or to repeat errors of drawings from kits (and these mistakes, as it is known to all modellers, there is a lot of   - producers of kits try to do models simpler and in bigger quantity) is a natural right and a choice the modeller, here to him nobody can specify.  If you like to build Le Mirage according to drawings of a kit -  it is your choice and your solution which nobody proposes you to change.

    Good morning all,

Hello Brian - Research is enjoyable when the information required can be obtained. In some cases, it can really be frustrating, especially when one would like to detail the interior of certain areas. Sometimes information can be really difficult to obtain. But - yes - I have to agree with you, that at the end, the effort done is rewarding.

Not much progress done last weekend, as I had to tune to woodwork again to construct a new showcase for my fire arms collection, as this is getting bigger and bigger by the day.

    Here goes.

A clear picture showing the range finder platform, located just under the admiral's bridge.

The construction of the platform, well under way.

The underside of the platform, showing the reinforcing members.

An Evergreen strip, to be used for the hinge arms for the admiral's bridge platform wind breaker fenders.

    The pieces cut to size.

    The hinge arms being fitted.

Another view of the hinge arms.

Wednesday is a public holiday, so I will try to carry out some more work on the Scharnhorst.

The shrouds at the port side are also in place.
I know that the deadeyes  are not in 1 line but they are so tiny…..
I have search on the floor for 6 times and I find them all
I used a jig but still they are …..out of line…..
I promise you that i shall do it better with the main mast!

    And Keith?
When you look at the lids, some of them are to the hull.
Now I can place them back again.

thanks all for your kind comments      putting the eye bolts in was the better solution......that or four tiny filled in holes that might have shown up like a sore thumb.   errands today kinda put a crimp in my build time,  but I still got a bit more done.  thanks again,  I really appreciate your kind views.

don't count yourself short Paul......experiment with some thin linen.  cut them,  fold and sew the edges,  and then sew in some pleats   {I use a sewing machine for all this}.   paint them with diluted white glue and drape them over a folded towel {covered with a piece of plastic wrap}.   you'd be surprised with what you can come up with.   I haven't been making them too long...this is the second build I've done with sails.   I see your new here.......welcome to the fold!   you've come to the right place!

I'll be around when your ready to do your sails Alex.   I'm not an expert.....but I'll be happy to help where I can!

while I'm here,  I'll show you where I am at this point in time.   As mentioned,  when I found the discrepancy {on my part}.......I pulled the blocks out.

there is some marks at the main mast.......they hardly show.  while I was thinking of what to do.....I got the jib sail ready,  as well as the blocks for the rigging.

I came up with this as a remedy.....simply installing eye bolts.

with the jib complete.......it was installed

the main sheet is the last sail to get the reef lines.    the first row is done

I'm using a copper colored thread to attach the jib sheet

the second row has been started on the main sheet

I admire your persistance.  You've made the exact statement I made in my log back on MSW 1.0 concerning more attention to fairing at the bow/stern.  It's called learning.  Hang in there.....the end is near for the hull.

More than the era, I think that's the scale to make the difference. I'm working in 1:50 and if it's a resource (you can work better on details), on the other hand it's also a hard situation: you must work better on those details!!!

    Anyway, your sails are spectacular.

    John Thanks.

Back at the block Factory, A long time ago I purchased a small board  of Lemonwood or Degame to make some wagon type wheels, the blanks were cut but the wheels never got made. I re-cut the small curved sections to use for blocks. the wood is quite hard and takes a fine polish it is similar in texture to Boxwood but a little darker. I wont be using this many double blocks, after shaping the profile I will cut a number of them in half to make single blocks like the ones on the right.

    and a metric rule

The big blocks are Lemonwood the small ones in the front are Boxwood

I also worked on a maple one with a metal frame

The pin is 3/32 in diameter

the new block attached with yesterday's shackle
