This is the power distribution board in the boiler room (see previous post) and details on how I did the treenailing. The ends of the cocktail sticks were stained with walnut to give more contrast, inserted into pre-drilled 0.7 mm diameter holes with a dab of white glue then snipped off level with the deck.

It's about 25 years since I last built a model ship so time for a new one, or in actual fact two - I will be doing a concurrent build of Billing Boats' HMS Victory 1:75 scale - this will be covered in a separate build log.
 
OK, back to the plot ... My plan is to have yellow LED lighting in the buildings on all three decks and in the pilot house  then red/green navigation lights at the prow. Power comes from a 9V battery concealed in a plinth I build from MDF and standard moulding. The wiring comes up through a pillar from the plinth, passes through the hull and 1st deck then connects to a distribution board in the boiler room on the 1st deck. I calculated that a 100 Ohm resistor will handle 4 x 2.2V/20Ma LEDS and with these in parallel the distribution board supports up to 20 LEDs (5 x 4). I have tested it with 16 LEDs (14yellow, 1 red, 1 green) and it works fine so 20 should be no problem.
 
Now some pics, I need to figure out how to post these with individual commentaries but for now the descriptions are in the file names.

Having said that I would be suspending the shipyard for a while well that wasn't strictly true. I put it down to toothache syndrome, you know, if you have a toothache you just cant help but keep putting your tongue on it, well so the cross section turned out to be the same.
 
I do have an update on the build which for me seemed a good place to stop.
 
All the Limber Boards and Strakes are completed as is the Footwailing Strakes, for the Footwailing I used a cardboard template to give me the distance between the Limber Boards and the Footwailing's. This is quite a simple section in that there is no shaping to be done, it's just a case of cutting them to size and fitting in place.
 
Following that I decided to permanently fix the Mortar Deck Clamps and fit the Mortar Deck Clamp Upper Strake (thick stuff), the Mortar Deck Clamps were already cut out, shaped and were dry fitted, these took but seconds to fix. The Upper Strake needed to be cut and though not required I shaped the back edge, that done they just needed to be cut to size and fixed in, so that's where I am now.
 
The next section to build will be the Shell Room, Mortar Pit Beams and Planking but they will be for later, NO HONEST I MEAN IT.
 
I will however still be building but not on ship stuff, my secondary build has arrived and so I will still be busy.

So all up to date now, the build has now been placed in a carrier bag to keep dust off, the next time she comes out will be for a couple of coats of poly, then back into the bag until it's time to carry on.

By the way,  Daniel (Dafi) has covered much of this capstan usage in his Victory build log and other topics where he thought things like this through with the help of MSW members and research.  He also explores other topics including guns, cabins, meals, and others.  It's well worth a look even if you're not building the Victory as it gives insight into how and why many things were done.

Thanks for the info. Now I have the information and must decide on doing it the right way or cheating and just running them over to other side and pairing them together that way :)

looks very good, love the dragon head. I d colour the eyes and nostrils to make them stand out
 
about the shrouds I am not an expert either but I assume they ll be tied around the 6 larger deadeyes

WEEK 29 - 31
 
first week all the parts for the 4 doors
 
so far i have planked and stained them and added the metal grid . the hinges and door knob will finish these off
 
next week the parts for the bulkheads and 5 of the lanterns
 
bulkheads are planked and stained and i added supports at the back so i can easily fit in the doors
 
the last week brings some reinforcement for the stern. i have stained them but will not put them in place until they are needed as i know i will break off the top parts
 
after this weekend i am all caught up and the next shipment is not due til end of the month i think.
 
from then on this build will slow down again and i will be starting up again on the G|F

i received the lights sooner then i thought so i have been working on placing them inside
 
8 of the 10 or in place , the last two will come after i put the two bulkheads in place.
 
you can see how i placed the wiring all in side the double wall
 
you can also see that i broke several of the top bits off . lots of repairs to do after this deck is done
 
now i can add the outside wall and finish off week 24-28

brings all parts for the in and outside walls of the gun deck
 
most of the work is done, just need to put them in place. but that will have to wait till I receive the next shipment of my lights

the inside wall is actually 3 pieces but after checking I can still slide it in I put them all together and planked them.
 
I am almost out of those left over strips (7x0.6x500) but I should have enough to finish the 4 doors and 2 bulkheads

I have made the hardware and cemented the pieces to their respected positions.  That's as far as I got yesterday.  I'll continue with this project tomorrow and hope to complete it.  If not, there is always the next day    I'm pretty sure it'll work - - - keep the fingers crossed.
 
I have been thinking about this hinge arrangement and figured there is another way of doing this by using brass rod.  
 

Here we have all the hinge parts except for the hinge pins, ready to be cemented to their respective locations.  The door parts will be trimmed after the door works to my satisfaction.
 

This shows the door hinge parts being cemented in place.
 

Here the fixed hinge part with the brass tubes for the pins is being cemented to the underside of the plating.  Tomorrow will be the task of locating the pin holes in the door parts and installing the 0.5 mm hinge pins.
