  1. On the sliding surfaces I use a good grade of floor wax, apply and buff off. will not stain wood. On the treads I use a 3in1 oil (sewing machine oil) has worked for me.
  2. The timber list was for the 1:48 version as to how much was over estimated I am not sure but I would say at least 10 to 15 percent, Just don't hold me to that number
  3. Laid out the joints on the beams by clamping the cross member in plase and scribing the edge with a razor knife instead of a pencil for more accurate marking, then used my chisels to remove the material Even made a short beam for dry fitting the joints, easier to fit between the beams
  4. Then set up the saw to do a half-lap joint. Set the lenght and depth to repeat on all beams.
  5. Cut the 3 front cross beams to start with, using my Byrnes saw. Once I had the correct lenght set, just used a stop block for the 3 beams
  6. Now have all 4 of the deck beams installed, glued and pinned. Will start cutting the cross-members next
  7. WOW.....Got to work on my build 2 days in a row. Not alot done but making headway. Second beam glue and installed. Cut 2 spacers so the spacing would be the same for each end glued and clamped. Going to try for 3 days
  8. While doing some more clean up in my room I came across some extra deck beams that I had already steamed and bent for the camber on the deck. They were still in good shape so this saved me some time. I had seen on other builds where the decks ere build piece by piece on the model and other where the deck was built as a unit off the model then installed. I will try to build mine on the modle piece by piece. My scale is big enough so it should allow me the room to work. Installed the firts beam. glued and pined it into place. I used a hot glue gun to temporarly place some blocks on the beam so as I would have a place for my clamps to work. I then pulled me som dowels to .040 dia to pin them in place on either side. These went all the way through the beam and in to the side boards. Dry fitted the dowel then applied glue, worked it in and removed the excess. This should hold them in place varly well. (I hope)
  9. Work has finally let me get back to my build, (hopefully it will last). After cleaning up my workspace, you could not get in the door from the stuff piled in the way, and doing some major cleaning I was able to work on my cross section some. I finnised the treenailing for what I had installed so far. Making treenails seems to be a good way to get back into things after being gone so long. After reviewing by prints I am printing out another set. These have layed around so long and been abused the scale was off and stains all over them. Will also be starting the deck beams over again. The ones I had cut were in the way when a drink was overturned that know one had told me about. So here is where I am now. Hope to get more done this week and to start posting progress again
  10. Very, very nice job, love the display case. Beautiful build with the way all the woods work and contrast each other, and the excellent craftsmanship on the build doesn't hurt none. Looking forward to following you on a full build. Be very proud of yourself.
  11. Harvey tools is a good supplier of micro drills and end mills for our hobby. You can download their catalogs here: http://www.harveytool.com/catalog/
  12. Glad to see another build starting here. Will be nice and big at that scale, will be able to put alot of detail into it. Looking forward to more.
  13. Frames are looking really nice, Mark has a great idea with the glass, also make sure you are leaving enough so that when they are assembled you have enough to fair the frames out. You can take off easy but not add as easy.
  14. Very nice work, Have fun sanding, looks like it will no take to much sanding to fair them.
  15. Welcome to the build, I will be following along, sounds like it will be an interesting build
