After a little absence,I have something of an update.Aside from very little time,my broadband connection is giving me grief   Either lightning fast or more commonly working at a snails past.I shall contact my provider and give them what for when in the right frame of mind.
Anyway, half the deck planked, given a scrape and light sand and then a couple of coats of poly to prevent glue marks whilst working on the other side.I have moved away from shellac as firstly,I like the variation of tones and secondly it means I can use my acrylic ageing techniques should I choose.I am ,due to the pleasing appearance, considering NOT treenailing and risk spoiling the effect.
The other side of the hull is now built and shaped so my next job is to sort the upper gunport frames on this side.
    Kind Regards

Today, I started by fixing the Cockpit Coamings  there were a few high spots that needed to be sanded . I then applied another coat of stain on them.( I am glad that I added the 2and coat ) While the Coamings were drying, I turned my attention to the Rudder, and Making the Tiller. I first cut some 3/32" birch ply to match the top of the Rudder, I then cut out the slot for wich the tiller goes in , Then glued the ply to the top on both sides of the Rudder, This then gave me the 1 1/2 " ( Scale) square in wich the Tiller fits. I then cut my 1 1/2" ( Scale) square stock to length. I then shaped it so that it has the ball end , I then soaked it in rubbing alcohol and bent the curve in . Here are the results . I used my sanding block to hold the rudder in position for the pics, Next will be to shape the Rudder Blade below the waterline

Today, The weather was not going to let me Varnish the brightwork on the Buzzards Bay 14ftr.So I thought it would be a good day to work on the 12 1/2, First I made the cradlle, the same way I made one for the Buzzards Bay.  Then I did more Fairing on the Hull. ( fairing is just about finished ) Next will be to epoxy the inside of the Hull , with West System .( this way I have the option to Sail Her) here are the results

    Build log part 39

chain plates (here in the Moment only those for 5mm deadeyes) on closed, planked starboard side

port side foremast chainplates, as far as the planking is in place the complete chain is fitted, in the area of the cutaway portions, I use one of the stringers together with length-dressed chain plates and leaving away the the lower cap plate. The boltings are placed at half width of the stringer

Mainmast chainplates, I trust it is a solution that does not look too much out of the way after all

thealignment angles can be set just like on the planked starboard side

OK, I had to show some planking progress. I am taking my time as best as I can and have gone back and removed some planks I didn't like, but progress is being made. These are all raw planking - no sanding or filler (yet). I started by planking the rows above and below the gun deck gun ports, so that these would be full width planks and have been filling in between the upper gun port plank and the plank sheer, and between the gun ports. Most of the work has been in the stern but I am also soaking and bending the curved planks in the bow, but can only do a few a night in the bow. Those short planks between the gun ports take a lot of time because there is a 1/32" gap between their ends and the sides of the gun ports, which means I can't sand them to length in place, so they have to be exactly the same to line up vertically for the edges of the gun ports. I will be glad when they are done. I could add a couple more rows of planks under the gun ports, but I may wait until after the other side is planked like this side, so that I can use those two rows to adjust the height of the wales between the two sides, if I need to.

I am having 10 yards of top soil delivered to the house today that my son and I will be spreading in the circle where the pool was that I took down earlier in the spring, so there won't be too much progress this weekend.

So am I.  I need to make the masts first.  I only get to build about 4 or 5 hours a week and with having to make 60 hoops and 50 belaying pins things don't go that fast.

    John, Bob, Mark & Pete,
thank you for the kind words.
First attempt on the body of the capstan. I'm not sure the proportions are quite right, back to the drawing board.

Finished dry fitting the quarterdeck.  It is a shame that so much of this deck will eventually be planked over.

There is some of the deck left unplanked but I may have to modify it when I get to that step.

Ultimately it will look like this if I follow the instructions

Hello again and today was rather productive and enjoyable.  It's nice when things work and fall into place without any snags.

Started out in the morning finalizing the parts for the dingy loading boom.  I had to install the few 3 mm pulleys in their brackets and secure the pins.  Then I made the cable shackles a bit smaller yet to see if the cables still go around them and it worked.

I whipped two of the cables that I put around the shackles and secured them with nail polish.  So I thought why not assemble the whole blooming thing!  It only took about half an hour for the boom and rigging was completed

Then I heard some thunder and figured to quickly mow the backyard before the rain.  Then I had some lunch, read the mail and ventured back into the garage aka the dockyard.  I took a few pics of the assembled loading boom and discovered I had reversed the boom cable and the loading cable, so I quickly re routed them, no prob, done in a few minutes.

With the success in making the shackles smaller I now also made the ones for the forward torpedo loading boom smaller and what a difference that makes.  I "quickly" whipped the cables around them and prepped a few more parts for the forward boom.  By that time the grass was dry enough to finish mowing the southside of the backyard.  I don't like to mow when it's whet, I'm using an electric mower and one never knows - - -

By that time it was time to call it quits and downloaded the pics and put them in my O19 file.

Okay, here are a few pics of todays work.

This shows the whipping of one of the shackles.

Here are all the parts laid out for the dingy loading boom on top of the drawing.

Here is a side view of the dingy loading boom, sorry about the camera movement.

    A shot from the rear.

Looking straight forward through the torpedo loading gantry at the dingy boom.  It's getting busy.

A close-up of the dingy loading boom.  I had to hang some weight on the loading hook to keep the cables taught.

A look kinda from above.  I had to stand on a small ladder here.

    Cheers,
