pete48 reacted to MEDDO in Halifax 1768 by MEDDO - FINISHED - Lauck Street Shipyard - 1/4" scale
Thanks Pete. Like all of us I am sure, I look at this and see where I made mistakes and could of done better. So far she's coming together well enough for my second full build.
b.t.w. I really like your Herreshoff builds, the planking is ver impressive.

pete48 reacted to Jim Lad in Francis Pritt by Jim Lad - FINISHED - Scale 1:48 - Australian Mission Ship
Well, after another long silence - finally an update!
I'm continuing to make and fit hull frames, and am finally starting look like that job will be finished soon; only a few more to go now. The next job after that will be to fair up the inside of the hull as needed and fit some stiffening in the form of stringers before I start to fair up the external hull for planking.
Here are a few photos of the current situation.

Thanks a lot pete48...
After this phase, it comes a little more difficult part, it's a single planking of the hull ...
... It is to be pasted the uppermost plank first, it is equally broad throughout its length, and this is 6mm ... Dimension of this plank is 1.5 x6mmm, the other planks that are used are to be produced out of planks 1.5 x5mm ...

Moving on to the chain-plate mounting....
although I tried to get the individual link lenghths in size to enable the lowest mounting Point above the wales, I could not get them all alingned in a straight horizontal row, but I`ll leave as is. therefore the deadeyes are all horizontal in a row which I felt is more important.
main mast arrangement
fore mast arrangement
the alignment angles I get with a string from the appropriate hight of a preliminary 8 mm diam. mast with an adjustable dummy top-platform in hight for main and foremast
Build log part 39 to follow...

Today, I started by staining the Bench faces and the floor Boards, that were installed yesterday. I then installed the seat tops and the Cockpit Coamings . While that was drying, I made the rest of the floor Boards and cut lines in the rear deck to simulate single planks. ( fortunatly the glue on the ply is dark in color ) so when I got thru the top layer I ended up with caulking lines . I then stained the rear Deck as well as the floor Boards. The rear Deck, Bulkhead trim pieces and floor Boards have not been glued in yet.

pete48 got a reaction from Elmer Cornish in Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 14' by pete48 - FINISHED - 3/4" = 1' - SMALL
Today, I continued with getting the Cockpit completed. I started by making 5/8 X 3/32" strips to go between the Bench seat face and the bilge opening. then I made the bench seat faces ou of 1 /64" birch ply. I then made the rear deck , then the trim molding for the 2 cockpit bulheads. I stained the bech seats a cherry stain, She is starting to take shap. Next will be to glue the bench seats first then the Cockpit moldings than the rear deck. On a side note, I went to my local Hobby shop in Spokane WA., and was told first that my scale is on the small size.( unless I want to spend a ton) Second that I am too far along in the build to add the Gear ( A remodel is not an option and so is the Radio) So I will still take her for a Free Sail at a nearby Boat Launch that is wide and shallow. ( so She cant get away , but will be able to enjoy a beatiful Starboard tack for about 80 to 100 yards. ( enough time to get some cool Photos anyway ) In the Cockpit only the floor pieces and Bench faces have een glued . Next will be to stain the bench faces, Install the seats and the cockpit Coaming . then I will varnish the wood in the cockpit . Here are the results

yesterday, I satrted finishing the Cockpit ,I started on the floor ( leaving the bilge open so that I can nstall the lead. for the keel) I am using 1 /32 "Bich Ply for the floor . I used 1 /64" bich for the bench faces, and 1 /16 " for the seats . I made the Cockpit Bulkhead curved trim pieces (not Glued ) the Coamings and bench seats have not been glued in, as thay will be stained first. Next Will be to make the Aft Deck, Stain all the peces. glue them in . The Cockpit floor acess to the bilge will be left un glued for access to the Bilge.( I still have to add the lead ) Here are the reults

Today, I Started by fixing the cradle , so that the Boat sits more centered . I then started making Cleats , I started by making metal ( brass ) one , That Failed miserably ( it ended up a blob of melted metal ) So I went online, Here as a mater of Fact. To Learn how to do it . ( This is a great website to learn new things ) I am Happy to be a member of M.S.W . Anyway , The first thing I realized is that I need thicker brass ( 1/8" thick for my scale ) There is an article in the metal Work, Soldering and Metal Fittings section here is the link :http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/4368-cuttingsanding-brass/page-1#entry125891
Michael Mott had made a posting that showed how he had made a cleat ( I belive for the Bristol Pilot Cutter ) I liked how it was done , So I made one out of wood Fashioned in that Manner ( it Scales to a 10" Cleat and will work perfect as the Bow Mooring Cleat). This was the way I was looking to make Cleats for a While now, Thank you Michael .
I did make all the Turnbuckles and got a great start on the Bow Chain Plate . Here are the Results

Today , Was a day of many Hats, I started by masking the deck and then spaying 3 coats of Flat white ( I did not want the glare from the gloss ) I then trimmed the cockpit Coamings, sanded them, and Stained them Cherry . Then I Started making the Pintles and Gudgeons , This is the first time that I have made metal parts ( I learned how to make them here on M.S.W. ) The Coamings have not been glued in. Here are the results

Wow, that rear deck looks great. If you didn't say anything, I would have thought it was individual planks.

pete48 got a reaction from Timothy Wood in Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 14' by pete48 - FINISHED - 3/4" = 1' - SMALL
Today, I started by cutting out a Piece of 1/32" Birch ply for the transom. And a Piece for the inside of the transom as well . I then Laid out the hole in the transom, for wich the Tiller to goes thru . I then transfered the layout marks on the 2 pieces of Bich ply, and cut out the slot . I next glued the 2 pieces of Bich ply on the Transom . Then I faired the ply in with the rest of the Hull starting at the Keel and working my way over the top of the transom. ( this helped give the top of the Transom the correct shape ) Then I could not wait any longer and had to cut the sheer on the Cockpit Coamings .The Coamings have not been glued in and will be installed at finishing stage. Next the Coamings and the Transom will get Stain . Here are the results
