I’m not sure if it’ll help but, my frames A & B I left the bow sprit supports and cut the extra in the bulkhead to accommodate the gun deck.

I'm at the very first stage of the build of Blue Jacket's Constitution build. Unlike Model Shipway's plank on bulkhead construction seen here in other builds, I opted for this semi-solid hull build. I say "semi" as although the focus is not on hull construction but on detail in the gun and spar decks. Despite having some experience with Blue Jacket ( i built the Portland several years ago) I have already had a few questions swiftly answered by the good folks at Blue Jacket. This is far from a "cut it out and glue it together" build. I'm looking forward to the challenge. Stay tuned.

Well, here goes. This will be my 3rd build log on this site, the previous ones being the King of the Mississippi and the Bounty. Both of those projects were Atesania Latina kits. While I enjoyed building them, I did feel that the instructions left much to be desired. I was only able to complete the Bounty thanks to the full-scale plans and to the excellent advice, support, and direction found on this site. Anyway.... the USS Constitution!
The Admiral gave me the Anatomy of the Ship book last Christmas, as I have been planning this as my next project for some time. The box arrived a week ago and I've commandeered my pool table as a good spot to spread everything out and check for damaged, missing, or warped parts. As far as I can tell, everything is in the box that is supposed to be there, though there does appear to be some discrepancy between exactly which sheets contain exactly which parts. This will the subject of some investigation over the next day or so, but I suspect it is only the result of some changes and additions to the supplied parts since the contents list was written nearly 20 years ago. I've already decided on one likely deviation from the supplied instructions, based on what I've seen in Captain Al's 'Mayflower' work. The Constitution kit does provide a fair amount of balsa filler blocks, but I am going to augment what was provided with enough filler blocks to give complete gluing surfaces to both the bow and stern curves. At least, that's my current plan. Here a few shots of the sorted contents of the kit...

Wood is such a precious commodity which comes in all shapes sizes and species from the simpilest bounty of pine to the rare Huanghuali.

What is done with these woods is in the eyes and mind of the beholder.

To look at something in its raw state and see the beauty of a finished piece is truly a God given talent for which we are not all blessed, I included, but it does not mean that I am incapable of appreciating the their artistry.

Every piece of wood which I have for modeling has come from a kit or supplier but this does not mean that i have to defend my source of aquisition nor will I do so.

    Jay,

There are so many historical gaps with Conny I believe that it is virtually imposible to represent her at any one period of time, specifically her early days, for I believe changes were made to accomodate her function as a superior fighting machine and not documented for what was important was survival at the time rather than historical documentation.

Of course the exception are the most recent changes which were not done to get her ready for war.  The Museum has a research center which is available on an appointment basis if one wishes to do more historical research but I believe that there are many dead ends there based on my previous comment.

I believe that I mentiones earlier the work of Gene Bodnar based on Marquardts book which created a great sectional model which the museum had purchased. He found errors, especialling in the scailing of the different sections, but moved on without getting distracted and I personally feel that this is the best way to go.

I am adding a few comments I found as they relate to the 1927 restoration which may help in making a point and even then what they did was based on assumptions rather than fact, in my humble opinion.
