Hello Erik.  I agree with all your comments about the Constructo HMS PANDORA.  When I made this model about 5 years ago I realized many of the errors and lack of clarity that you mention in instructions and drawings . So I gave myself the task of writing all my comments and sending them to the Company in the eagerness to improve that. The answer was very kindly but I was told that this model will be out of the market.
However, despite the problems, the construcction of this model gave me great satisfaction andthe results where quite acceptable.

    Hola:

Now I finished one of the Vent Box.According to the instructions these boxes have no pre-installed coamings instead  they are bolted to the deck having only a couple of transverse wood strips.  But seeing pictures of the actual modern ship they have coamings so I put them.

Also, and to change activity,  I painted the lower part of the hull using a combination of dark green with forest green and a little blue acrylic paint. Now it has two layers of paint and only need to apply the layers of satin varnish.

After some vacations I continued with my boat work. Now with the foremast rigging. It was actually slower than I thought at first because of the large amount of rigging to place (and I did not put the sails on!!).

To give a different and more interesting touch tilt the yards a bit. This also allows me to make the case a bit narrower.  Here some pic´s:

    Hi Friends:
After a little less than a year I finally finished my Baltimore Pride II. This was my first ship without sails and I showed it as if I were in a dry dock, a different view of all my other models.  Here some pic´s:

    Hola a todos:
After almost a month I have new updates.  One important decision was to put or not to put the sails, and finally I decided that this will be my first model ship with no sails and present the ship as if it were on a dry dock or cradle.  However I decided to place most of the rigging except those that hold the sails. Here you can see the rigging of the main mast finished.

    Next step, the Foremast rigging.

Almost reaching the end. Now I've put the running and stern lights, the lifeline stanchions and railing as well as the small swivel guns and a pair of life rings.

What remains to finish is the construction of the cradle or building-ways, and finally a case to protect the model.

    Hola Bob:
The shield and lettering was a great challenge but as you can see in my post #23 (Oct 21, 2016) I resolved it making the lettering with the computer and with a little try and error obtained the correct size. For the shield I got a drawing from google, print it to the correct size and glue it over a previously made wood piece: I attached you this drawing:

To completely finish my Vasa I made the display case to protect it from dust. Now is in the place where I had the HMS Pandora, which I returned to the hobby room.

    Hi friends:

Finally the time has arrived. After 15 months of spending many hours of fun with the construction of Vasa, yesterday I finished placing flags and banners and also the hand railings. Today, a little sadly, I have started to save and organize tools and materials as well as the workbench.

I decided that before starting with the new project, the "Pride of Baltimore", I have to design and make a display cabinet for the exhibition of some of the models, since I have no place in the house to place another ship individually.

Here some pictures of my finished model.

    Some details:

And some simulating that it is a "real"  ship on the Miramar Bay at Guaymas:

Saludos and see you in my next project.

PS: I want the opportunity to thank all the people that follow my log and specially to my Vasa mates for they encouragement and help.  Also for all the likes I received throughout my work.

Thanks Joachim for your fast response. In your model the fly net sees perfect but I am afraid the size for my ship is a little small, and unfortunately here you can get only one size of fly nets.

    Hola harlekin:

You really got a bargain buying this model for 10.00 pounds!!!

Actually this was my first wood model and as far as I know Constructo discontinued doing this ship around five years ago. It was a big challenge to me but I learned a lot about modeling and constructing my own tools that help me a lot since now.

If you need some advice probably I can help you.  By the way, you can see some pictures of my Pandora following the link in my signature.

Update on the build. Making of the crownests. Photos are self explanatory, I think

By using a copy from the plans, I placed a small dent on the platfor with an awl, which allowed me to place the thin pieces of wood at the correct distance.

Terrible wood here, by the way.

Using magnets to press the sides.

    And a rubber band

Karleop reacted to Tigersteve in English Pinnace by Tigersteve - FINISHED - Model Shipways
Very happy to close up this project! The boat hook was made with a strip of maple lathed with my rotary tool. I used some wire from the kit to make the hook. I was going to add the grapnel hook and had even made a ring for it with some wire, but the line from the kit was unusable so I tossed that idea as I did not want to invest more money into this project.

Some final thoughts and again I will compare this kit with the longboat kit. Both challenging kits for sure. I think the planking on the Pinnace is more difficult due to the length and curves of the hull. Additionally, you must plank inboard.

I enjoyed making the modifications such as the panelled supports under the seats and the longboard that runs down the center of the boat. Looking back, I wish I had added the stretchers for the rowers. I think that would have been another nice touch. I decided to leave out the splash guard panels as well.

Just for kicks I took the longboat out of its case to take a group photo. Thank you everyone for your interest, likes, and support throughout what was probably the slowest build of the English Pinnace.
    Steve

I finished up the windlass and anchors.  To do them, I had first drill the hawse holes on port and starboard, which was a little tricky, but managed.  I put the windlass itself on two supporting planks, which is a simplification of the instructions, but looks ok in my opinion.
The anchors wouldn't blacken, so I had to paint them.  Mounting the tying in the anchors was pretty easy, then run the chain and rope to the windlass, and finally glued the chain/rope to the chain pipes.

Finally, I used thread instead of wire for the windlass connector, as working with fine wire seemed pretty impossible.
