Hi Patrick, You have an amazing amount of detail in a ship that small. I built one at 1/48 scale and had trouble with my big fingers and the small parts. You have probably noticed a lot of the details in the AOS book have the wrong scale in the description just use your best judgment as to the size of the parts. Mike

Hi Patrick, The Pandora is an interesting build. What is the scale and what kind of wood did you use for the framing? She is looking very good. Mike

Hi Pathfinder, The Washington is a lot of fun to build and results in a respectable model. I am glad you like my model. Jeff has been busy at his ‘day job’ and working on the plans. More information will be coming later. You will be amazed at the amount of details in the drawings. Mike

I have been working on the head rails. The drawing showing the lower knee made a good pattern and fit nicely. The upper knee drawing did not make a very good pattern so I divided it into three pieces using the drawing for the end pieces and used some modeling clay to form the middle section. I carefully removed the clay and traced the outline on a paper pattern after some trimming the center section fit.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
