How is the build going?

I got stuck here because I couldn't figure out a good enough solution for the lettering (I didn't want to use the paper approach as I think it might look weird against the black of the ebony), so I ended up switching over to the La Renommee in part to help PiratePete have some material for his excellent Euromodel Build Notes, and then got sucked into the plastic world.  So, unfortunately, no further progress here.  I also have a half finished Pegasus on the shelf as well.

I think what I might do is prioritize finishing the Pegasus since it's furthest along.  I had stopped that build to wait for carving tools to arrive so that I could carve the various decorations in lieu of using the PE in the kit.  Either that, or work on the LAR.  The Morgan might be last in the queue, but we shall see.

Hey thanks very much!  Sorry to have missed that you replied on my log.  You should definitely put up a build log as there are a lot of helpful people on here.

At some point I do want to get back to this model as I visited the real one a few years ago.  Too many modeling interests, too little time unfortunately 😩

Mike,

Had a chance to see how the ebony worked out and it's impressive.  You're a better man than me for working with it.

Looking forward to seeing your solution for the lettering.  I'm stuck with the same issue on my Conny, but for now will continue as I should be able to add it later.

Hey Jeff, I’m working on getting custom decals made for the Morgan.  I can pass along the gentleman’s name if that would help.  He’s been sending me proofs to get the size, letter orientation/stern curvature and we are just about there.  I’ve never used decals on wood before so I’m curious how that will work out.

I didn’t want to use the printed paper approach (black ink background probably won’t match the ebony black) or try dry transfer letters (too many letters in the name to get them all aligned correctly).  Fingers crossed that decals are the solution.

Thanks, for now I'm going to hold off on doing much with that portion of my Conny build, but I'll be following your solution very closely.  In an ideal world, right now my preference would be raised lettering and I may try to carve it just as an intro to carving and for the experience.  High probability that it will look like my grandchildren did it or I end up cutting myself.  Best of luck!
