Le Renard by Tompslattery - FINISHED - Artesania Latina

Recommended Posts

Hi

I started this kit approximately 11 years ago.  It has traveled half away across the eastern side of Australia through various moves.  Last time I looked at it was roughly 5 years ago.  Pulled it out and decided to try and finish it.  Its haunted by the ghosts of mistakes past.  These are photos of where I left it.

Great! This one is also waiting for me on the shelf! I visited the ship last year in France ( as well as the Hermione). And as soon as I have finished the Lady Nelson I will take on this one. So it's nice to have at least 2 other examples to learn from. Have fun and enjoy!

currently: master korabel Schooner Polotsk

finished: the Swift 1805, the Lady Nelson

on the shelf: US Brig Syren, Le Renard and the Hermione

Yeah, they're a screw clamp sold by modellers shipyard in Australia. I started using them but found them annoying to screw in and out. As well as not always holding well. Tried drawing/push pins and found those much better.

Some of these deck items are more complicated than I thought they were going to be.  Didnt realise I had to so the shaping on the pin rail bits(not sure if correct term) or the little square parts on the railing

Following your build with much interest. I have the AL version on the shelf, waiting to be built ( a few others as well, though). The life size replica can be seen in Saint Malo, France. I hope make a trip on the ship one day soon. Did you know there is another build going on on this site? By Gaffrig. Also the Artisana version. Enjoy!

Well tonight could've gone better.  I was unhappy with how this railing that the bowsprit slots through turned out, so I decided to try pulling it apart to do it again.  Should've just left it.  Broke of 3 of the corner ends as well as splitting pieces off longitudinally.  Manage to glue most of the bits back onto the rail except for one corner.  Now to recut the 3 posts and hope I get it square this time
