As soon as I figure out the new process, I'll try to rebuild my log.  Seems like an eternity since I last worked on it....about the 20th of December, 2012.  Been a lot of things going on but I hope to finish all the final touches by the end of March.  We are selling our house and moving so it looks like another few weeks before I can do much other than rebuild the log.  Got virtually all the pictures but none of the interesting comments and suggestions.....Oh well.  This does provide a great opportunity to not include the ugly stuff....

Hi Script,

Welcome back!

Nice pictures you are posting.

And why not the little mistakes?

I can learn from that….

Good luck with your new home.

Thanks Sjors!  My Princess plans on some remodeling in the new house....... :o   so it may be a while before I get building again.  But it does appear that I may be assigned a small room for my very own shipyard.... :D

Nice to see you back. Good luck with the move and I hope your new shipyard quarters provide the inspiration to get back making sawdust quickly!

Hi Grant, Frank,  Tylmo,

Thanks for stopping by.  I'm still sorting out my tools and such for our move so it'll be a while before any more pics are up.  Seems I have also misplaced 2011 on my laptop.  I do stilll have virtually all of my posts, sans dialogue, for 2012 but none from 2011!  And that was when I started the project.

Also have my completed pics of the HMS Victory bow cutaway but I'm not sure if they're worth re-posting.

As soon as I have a place, I hope to get back into modeling....completing the Rob't E Lee and starting work on the Bluejacket version of the Lackawanna.

One thing that will hold up my next ship is the building of a stagecoach....Wells Fargo...Victory Models, that my wife got me for Christmas.  Do you think I could post that here?  After all, it was a 'ship of the prairie'......... :)

Cheers,

Hi Anja, Tylmo..

Yes Anja, I'll post some pictures of my new shop but it wont be until June or July.  We are renting a house while some remodeling is being done on our new purchase.  Thanks for stopping by.

Tylmo,  The loss of the photos on the site were a reminder to back up my home system.  Ironically, while I was not able to work on my project, I had gone through all my pics from my HMS Victory Bow section and deleted all but the completed photos from my laptop, thinking they would always be on this site.  I had not started cleaning up the Robt E Lee when the crash happened but somehow all my 2011 shots disappeared.  I'll try to put up some of what I do have left.

Cheers,

Jim

This section depicts the rear rail work.  I was not able to use the included wirw as it was too stiff and would not hold a bend, breaking the posts.  The wire shown was from a local craft store, used for making jewelry.

Hi Jim,

It's nice to see a few pictures back.

We have to wait till june or july to see your new shop?

That's a long time…Are you building a new house?

Sjors

Posted

Hello Jim,

Your riverboat is looking great. It's a pity you lost your log. The comments and the dialogues make a build lively. But I'm glad you still have some pictures to share.

The metal you use for making jewelry is a great choice. It's nice to work with, easy to handle and not expensive.

But what did I see in on of the pictures ..... A glass of wine? 0447.gif

Be careful not to knock down the glass while building ..... otherwise the ship will be christened earlier than intended. Luckely the tissues are at hand.

Take care,

Anja

Hi Anja and Sjors,

Thanks for stopping by.

We are not building a new house.....we are moving to a smaller one and it needs some work.  It is the same age as the one we are selling.

As for the glass....it is not wine, it is Kentucky Ale.  It is so good I just decided to use a wine glass to savor it.  And yes, there is a danger of early christening... :P !

On another note, I am watching your builds, just trying to stay out of the controversy :D :D :D .

Jim, I know that you don't have the opportunity to add to your log, and good luck with your move and the relocation of the boatyard. I just went through the process (downsizing) which, for us, took a whole year. Anyway, I hope you monitor this site regularly, because, as you know, today is your day...happy birthday!

Thanks for looking in Frank, Tylmo and Tom..

Frank,  I'm going to try and repost some of my build while we are in the rental apartment we have for the next few months.  No building but maybe some interesting parts, like the stack braces and such.  I hope your help does not refer to my mortar as I've retired from combat for the role of arbitrator....

Tom,  Thanks for the birthday wishes!  My wife and I plan to celebrate at a later date as we spent the entire day packing and moving stuff here and there.  The movers are coming Monday and we need to be ready.  As for the move taking a year....could be...my wife thinks we'll be in our home in June and my best guess is about August or September....

Cheers,

Since I got a breather from dealing with contractors, etc., I thought I thought I post some shots of my stack brace device....made out of nails and a sanding block.  I first tried to make the braces with the supplied wire but it kinked so easily it was impossible to have it look like it was under tension...just looked like kinked wire.  Instead I substitued the same bead stringing cable that was used for al the other bracing.

Things are a bit out of order but still represent much of the build process.  These pics show the addition of railing after the decks have all been placed and set, including the pilot house.

This set shows the installation of top rails and the first few  posts.  I forgot how many but each post had to be custom trimmed to fit as my decks were not quite level over the length of the boat.

Hi John,

Thanks for stopping by.  I am glad to see the link you have to the Stephenson Rocket....  Interesting build.   My wife decided to get me a gift of a Stagecoach by Amati/Victory Models so that will be one of my next projects, once the R E Lee is complete.  It could be argued that a stagecoach or a train is a ship of sorts so I'll be starting a build log under the kit built section.  We'll see if that is okay with the site bosses............. :)

Cheers,

Jim

Hi Jim, had that discussion some time ago. See this link to the general discussions and the statement of M.Taylor in particular:

http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/369-do-you-have-a-strong-desire-to-purchase-model-kits/page-7?hl=steam#entry28760

So apparently you will receive a no go.
