Want to build a Victory

I am half way through a Corel Greyhound and it is turning out pretty good considering the lack of good instructions. I am 40 and have been building things my whole life starting with lego and plastic car models and now with my career. I am a boilermaker by trade for the last 20 years. So I am very good at reading and following blueprints. I am hobby machinist, with a lathe and mill and I build any neat little gadgets I see online. I have always wanted to build a wooden ship and the greyhound is fun but I want a bigger challenge.

If you can be patient, Amati is coming out with probably the ultimate Victory model.   One of the Admins is building her and working on the instruction manual.

Challenge?  if you want a real challenge:    ANCRE -  monograph for St. Philippe  -  scratch build @ 1:48.  There probably won't be much competition in the number of copies. 

A factor with HMS Victory is the really large number of copies,  although,  the number started and abandoned is probably at least 2 magnitudes higher than the number completed.

Less daunting in decoration but without a peer for beauty  - another 1st rate - a contemporary of Victory - also an ANCRE monograph is La Commerce de Marseille.

 

Any first rate is a momentous challenge.   Done well, it is a magnum opus.  At a scale where you have a lot of detail,  Furniture will have to be given up to have room to display it.

Welcome to MSW, Tensecondsdown. Interesting name - is there a story attached?

 

Victory is a huge undertaking, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. Patience and persistence are your best "tools".

 

In the meantime, I'd recommend starting a build log for your Greyhound - it's a great way to get help and advice,and often solutions to the problems that arise, from people who've already been there.

As your model is already part complete, it's probably best to start out with a few photos to bring it up to date, and then proceed from there.

Welcome to Model Ship World Tensecondsdown.  You mentioned that you are a hobby machinist.  There is a hobby machinist show held in Pennsylvania each year called Cabin Fever.  The work these machinist do is just fabulous.  They take real size blueprints and scale down their work.  I really like the scaled down engines, both gasoline and steam.  I have attached a video of a scaled down flathead engine:

Well, considering I won't be building a Victory until late 2021, I think I might look into this. Thanks
