Your canopy netting is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Did you mention anywhere what material you used for the the actual netting? In the past when I needed netting, I used Tulle, but that does not look like what you used. Your netting has more realistic square openings. Any chance you remember what you used and where you got it?

Jon

I’m also using tulle. I got the finest one I could find at Walmart. The only unfortunate thing is that it’s silver and I have to paint it once it’s in place. I’ve also been playing with it to get it to be a little squarer before I start stitching it in.IMG_9281.thumb.jpeg.6305b314147075a22869da89d69195c1.jpeg

Nice.

Looking forward to seeing the finished project!!

As an aside..

In a conversation with a friend who I shared my build log with, he mentioned that he grew nostalgic for the days when he build model airplanes out of balsa  So, I asked him if he had any he would share with me.  This was his response:  "This is all that remains."  🙄

It just dawned on me that my next project, after Conny, should be a Fokker Triplane!  That's something I've been wanting to do almost as long as I've wanted to build the Constitution.  I saw this one at an airfield somewhere in Wisconsin in my early 20's, and I've wanted to build one ever since.

Thanks for the nudge.  I'm putting a recurring reminder in my calendar so I don't forget.

Congrats on the hammock netting.  Excellent workmanship, (which I will NOT be attempting to emulate 😁)

and enjoy your sabbatical.

Speaking of the DRI, I just drafted one in 1/35 scale!IMG_9308.thumb.jpeg.2fe7a58b8a9ad87d4ae58ca432d0b59f.jpegI’m yet undecided if I’ll be building this one directly after my Avro or if I’ll be starting my gun port lids.

After a long absence, it’s finally time to convert my desk back into a shipyard!

I got my Avro 504 completed. I want this one to like one of the original airframes, so I based it on the beautiful example that’s displayed at the London Museum.

I modified this one to be my take on the pylon racer Voodoo. I call it Ghost Cat!IMG_0778.thumb.jpeg.c8a8b1df59bab146d32bc1b9454922c8.jpegIMG_0779.thumb.jpeg.8b23dd65a798814cfc608a2ab99f2cdb.jpegLast, I just finished my scratch built 1/35 scale Fokker DR1. I designed this one after the early paint scheme of Manfred von Richthofen’s DR1 152/17.IMG_1929.thumb.jpeg.178431fb01cfa33dad97e8a366c4a0cf.jpegIMG_1930.thumb.jpeg.fa57b5ebe06d5c6e22dc4013b69f34dc.jpeg

I’m really hoping to get a chance tonight to figure out where I left off!IMG_1938.thumb.jpeg.bc743216e9710656d3d4fe8dfd66cc1e.jpeg

Thanks for sharing your process on these canopy frames, Unegawahya!  I will definitely refer to this when I get to this point on my Constitution... whenever that will be! 🤷‍♀️😄👍

I know this comment come waaaaaay late, but I think yours is the best example of canopy frames I've seen anywhere at MSW.   I love that you managed all of this without solder.  Magnificent!

I may yet reconsider introducing these to my spar deck, (maybe the icing on the cake after spars and rigging are done.)  the small font is my way of weaseling out if I don't.. 😁

Thank you! I really appreciate that! I puzzled over those frames for a wile. I’m really glad you like them. They should also be easy to reproduce because they’re made from standard K&S brass.

My starboard gun port lids are done and as soon as they’re dry I should be able to start installing them.IMG_1982.thumb.jpeg.4998bab13b1d7b6d13fff2ac44c115ae.jpegTo simulate glass being in the portholes on the upper lids I used Testors Clear Parts Cement. I’ve gotten to the point that I love this cement because it dries completely clear and you can even use it to make small windows. It also can be easily removed from some plastic with a toothpick if you get a little messy!IMG_1983.thumb.jpeg.6db6dda7fefc0b5f2fbf977a3c1febb5.jpeg

The Testors Clear Parts Cement looks like a great solution for making faux windows!  Nice idea!
