I decided to start my Chris Craft kit to take a break from the Morgan

this is a Dumas kit that ends up just over 13 inches

on inspection seems the frame and first plank layer is balsa wood, will see how that goes

kit has lots of planking and bag of resin parts like horns, prop, wheel etc

also decals , I think I will see if I can make some of the details like step areas instead of a decal

Installed the chines

used elaborate string work to hold them in place

the balsa is too flimsy to clamp, basically turns to mush

onward and upward to the sheers

those will require soaking and bending at the severe twist in the stern, barrelback section

Hey man, I didn't know you had a Proxon! Congrats!

Looks like an interesting small model.

Remember my old Lumba-Lumba which was balsa? ... not ideal for an RC boat; too soft. Still has a ding where George's boat hit her. 🤨

She's still in the basement drydock. Here are two of the fleet which you may remember.

I can’t believe you still have the box for Lumba Lumba

i had forgotten about the cabin cruiser

i have the cheap Proxon, no tilt, no height adjust

should have gotten better saw

Oh, HaHaHa!   I don't have the box from the 70's; I just found that image......;)

No tilt, no height adjustment?  That's very limiting in a saw, all right.

I am working on balsa layer of planking

i saw a picture of actual boat that shows the planking has a bit of an upward sweep at the shear as well as quite a weird shape at the bow , that deep cut or twist below the chines

seen here

not obvious in the instructiions

I finished the balsa layer of planking.

still some shaping to do then I move on to mahogany layer.

i also put together the seats. I have been thinking of ordering faux leather or real thin leather for the seat cushions to make it look more interesting.

Managed to do a bit of the mahogany layer on bottom over the summer

going about it in a strange way likely but I find the flat bottom quite different to the usual ship hull

spent time looking at Chris Craft engines from the late 1930’s

seems to be inline 6 usually

I searched for 3D inline 6 engines and found a few sinam printing sample parts to see if they will work
