So far everything has gone together fantastic great design thank you Chris Watton

I do really like the mdf for the frame it is easy to do the Fairing and for the glue i have used evergreen premium wood glue only now it's time to start shaping hull planks.

Cheers Lee.

Just a quick update on the planking i just went with what looked right for the tapering of the planks i tapered to around half at the bow and and 1/4 at the stern slightly easing off the tapering the further i got down this is only my second time planking a hull a few of the planks needed severe edge bending to lay against the frame the black marks are from the soldering iron LOL i also put a fillet under the third plank at the bow to get rid of the need to edge bend so much which helped a lot the Limewood Chris uses has proven forgiving to work with very enjoyable build.

Just a few more to close the hull and her lines show.

And a question on the real thing would have the Caulking been slightly visible through the white hull paint on these Cutter's as in an indented line or a slightly raised line or was the paint too thick i would like to try to replicate this for the second planking with cotton and also mark a waterline once painted and paint from the waterline down a slightly yellowish tinge like a filter almost to simulate what has been in the water.

Cheers Lee.

Have a look at contemporary ship paintings, they'll give you a good idea of what people saw at the time.

The only image I noted that shows distinct hull planking, the cutter might be clinker built:
Shipping at Spithead with Merchantmen, a moored British Navy Third Rate Man o' War and the Cutter 'Thetis' in the Foreground by Francis Holman  (link )

The Google search I use: https://www.google.com/search?q=cutter+ship+painting

Click that and then switch to images.  Most images that I found in that search are too modern for Sherbourne (i.e. late 18c or early 19c) and show copper bottomed vessels.

Right click ion the image at the top to see the full painting.

Thank you Robert

It seems to be the best bet to look at period paintings as you said some show it and some don't just one of those things as a modeller i suppose to decide to do it or not I think I'll try something in between where the lines are hardly visible but there.

Firstly though i have to do a good second layer planking job haha.

First layer of planking complete and faired ready for the second layer.

I used tamiya tape to get the width's of the last plank

Trying out my new Japanese mini Plane to remove the scorch marks from the keel I might leave this face unpainted

The outer bulwark layer was dry clamped to the roll of tape and left for a couple of days

The outer Bulwark layer was glued with dabbing on small dots straight from the bottle and the fit looks to be very good.

Thank you Lee

Just a little update on the second layer of hull planking

I started off by using single full length planks but my thick CA was drying before I could get them to lay down the way I wanted so another approach was to make the planks a close to scale length which made the job a lot easier to manage each plank laying down and conform to the hull shape so far it's working well for me and I like the look.

I know the instructions say to use CA, but I used Titebond PVA.  This gives a little working time before gripping tight, and allows full length planks.

I do like the CA method though especially with the shorter length's

I must try Titebond

Just ordered Vanguards HMS Speedy might try Titebond when planking that hull

Finished the second layer of planking I did not taper any at the stern

Once sanded I used Tamiya 2 part polyester putty ( Works well on wood ) on the seams ect

The Wales were then fitted carefully following the laser cut line on the bottom of the Bulwarks.
