This is my second Doctor's buggy. The first was not a very good kit and I ended up kit bashing it. This one from Model Expo was a much better kit with easier to follow instructions. It helped that I am pretty familiar with the actual antique Doctor's buggies so the kit and build made sense.

Finished:

Your Doctors Buggy looks Great!!

Since you've gotten a few under your belt, try scratch building one from plans.  I've gotten plans for a stagecoach, delivery wagon, chuckwagon, and then I've built some from full size plans.  Lots of books out there on how to build wheels and wagon boxes, undercarriage, etc.

Here are a few that I've built, both from plans and from full size vehicles.

Just out of cultural curiosity: how did the 'doctor's buggy' got its name? I now that in 'Westerns' doctors are often portrayed as driving one, but I am sure there would be more numerous people having/driving one.

Nice job on the model btw.

I think they were used a lot by doctors because they were fast and light. There was a drawer under the seat and a box in the back to carry supplies. They usually had a cover over them for the weather.

The term "doctor's buggy" was first applied to a type of doctor's phaeton
. A phaeton is a lightweight, four-wheeled carriage, often designed to be owner-driven.
Here's how the name came about:
  • Distinctive Top: The term "doctor's buggy" specifically referred to a doctor's phaeton that featured a unique top, designed by a physician named Dr. Yandell in Louisville, Kentucky.
