Ship Model Carvings and figureheads - Using AI for for making STL files for 3D printing...things are getting better every day.

Kenny, the figurehead might do for the clipper Thermopylae - representing King Leonidas ... even closer if the sword arm  were to point the weapon downward as documented elsewhere for the Thermie's figurehead.

As @Chuck predicted a while back when this tread started, Meshy has now released the beta version of multi view for the Meshy 6 model.

 

And it is fantastic 🙂 

 

Here are the drawings of the figurehead of the frigate Rota from 1822, designed by the famous painter Professor C.W. Eckersberg:

 

 

Feeding these three views in seperate images to Meshy gave me a near perfect model of the figurehead:

 

 

 

 

So now we don't have to rely on extrapolation if we have several views, either from drawings or from photos from multiple angles 😄

Incredible how quickly this AI 3D model generator stuff is coming along. I had another application flagged to me today, Hitem3D, which also looks good, and while googling to recall that name, I see there are many other alternatives to Meshy.

I have seen and tried many alternatives to Meshy, but none currently works as well for the things I have tried. It is amazing that Meshy can take pencil/ink drawings and return naturalistic 3D models!

Its a wonderful thing really...well worth the cost in my opinion for the ship modeler who prefers to not carve wood in the traditional way.

I have paid folks upwards of $300 to $500 to design figureheads and other carvings in CAD for 3D printing.  Just to give you guys some perspective on costs.

Wow! That Frigate Rota figurehead came out amazingly sharp, TJM!  Of course, I keep thinking, can I do something like this for the screw-elevation carronades on the spark deck of my 1:76.8 1812-ish Constitution someday?!? 🤷‍♂️🏆😉
