Gorch Foch by Don Jane - FINISHED - OcCre - Scale 1:95

Recommended Posts

I purchased me Gorch Fock last spring and wanted to finish my Bounty before I got into this build - I got my Bounty under glass last week, so I opened up the boxes of the Gorch Fock and got rite too it. So far I am very impressed with the kit - the lazer cuts are very precise and fit very nice. You noticed I said boxes - the kit came in 2 boxes - It mite have all fit in 1 but there is a lot of stuff so I guess OcCre dicided to pack it in 2 boxes.  I have the hull super structure done and am now working on the decking - I find the instructions very good - they are very easy to follow and also incude color pics of the build - so far so good . I hope to have some pics up later today.

hello Don

I think the purpose is to make it easy to plank. it gives you how the planks will need to flow

yes it needs to stick out 3mm which is the thickness of the other planks so they fit nicely against it

if you haven't done so yet make sure to bevel the grove the same way as the outside of the bulkhead to ensure the depth of it is 2 mm and the plank will stick out the 3 mm

Well I am making some progress, but i just havn't been posting very much. I now have the hull completed and painted and some of the trim put on - strakes etc. it is now very slow going as there is a lot of trim painting to be done so I am spending a lot of time "Watching Paint Dry " very boring !!! I am very happy with my build and the quality of OcRee kit. Veru detailed instructions !!

Now I have come to the time too start stepping the masts and instaling the yard arms - Is it best to put the sails on the yards before I put them on the masts or what suggestions has anyone got. This is the first time that I am putting sails on a model !

I now have a bit of an issue - I am ready to step the masts - Does anyone have an idea as to how I can get the riggibg lines tite - this model does not have dead eyes - it uses a turnbuckle system and the turnbuckles are not adjustable !!

Hi Don,

Great work on your Gorch Foch!

As for your turnbuckles, glue them in place and then do the following.

Secure the shroud at the head of the mast. Take that line and thread it through the top of the turnbuckle. Cinch up the line by doubling the end back up the shroud. This takes the slack out of the shroud. Now pinch it off with an aligator clip about an inch (2.54 cm ;) ) above the turnbuckle. And then seize the doubled line just at the turnbuckle. I just tie a series of half hitches a bunch of times to secure it. Then give the seizing a dab of matt laquer to hold all the knots in place. Presto!

Hope this makes sense...

Peter
