I had a look in the Painting, weathering and finishing section of this site and scroll through to I'm sure the second last page. There is a post on exactly what you were looking for. It's called "Name Templates" good luck.

Thanks, that is worth investigating, I did see that you can also buy the copper etched lettering from some model shops too.

Copper transfers would be ideal. Surely ther must be some out there. After applying them a coat of clear gloss might aid in protecting them

Thanks , I have found  Amati do copper lettering sets, is that what you mean?

I have up to now been ordering all my additional parts from cornwallmodelboats.co.uk their website seems to list nearly everything from the main kit suppliers and is easy to use.

Yes, those lettering sets are the ones. You can measure and mark out very lightly with a pencil to get everything centered and lined up. I have had a look at that website and it is a well stocked store. And have heard great reviews about there service. I hope you have the same experience.

They have been great, I have ordered three times from them and every time the items arrived in a couple of days, what I like is browsing the various parts and comparing them to the different manufacturers--  lots of pictures LOL!!

Ian,

if the stern of your model is black, then you could look at printing the lettering out on your computer.  You choose the font you like, size etc. then type it onto a page from notepad or similar program. Then in the 'tools' heading you can reverse the color so it's white lettering on black, define a 1/4" boundary round your lettering so the whole page isn't printed out in black and you can print and cut it out. I have used yellow lettering as well with this technique and it works very well especially after a coat or two of matt varnish when it's in place.

Ian,

The names were painted on the ships, some plain, some not  so plain.  Printing them as described above, on THIN paper stock that is the same color as the  counter is a good idea, but  you can also make a thin paper template, paint it the same color as the counter, then paint the name.  After drying, glue onto the counter.  David Antscherl goes into great detail on how to do this in TFFM.

Hello Ian

Your problem has probably been sorted by now, but this is the lettering set I purchased for the display name of my victory in its display case. The sets are in various sizes and colours from CMB. Good luck with your build. DAVID
