Here we go. Finally decided to get started on this project. Never done a wooden ship before. I have decided to start with a solid hull as it seemed.a little bit less overwhelming. I am treating this model as an experimentation to prepare for some bigger project and I have my shelves.

The kit is very nice and the directions seemed clear enough.

I started by sanding the hull and adding a coat of wood filler. After a final sanding session I was able to get a nice smooth finish.

the direction on the kit, was asking you draw lines on the hull in lieu of deck planking. I have decided to practice planking by using thin strip of wood 3mm×50mm and glue them on the deck.

I am having some difficulty with the angles and how to treat the edges.

Good learning experience! !!

Here are some pics to get started. I would appreciate suggestions and recommendations.

Hi Neptune,

I was not thinking about doing the planking on the side. I may start looking into this and think about that I could be a good idea.

Last night, I applied 2 coats of Min Wax Weathered Oak on the ship to give it some additional depth. I am happy with the overall result.

Worked on the bowsprit. Pretty happy with the result. I modified the attachment on the side of the hull. The plan just asked to use a nail and I did not like that. Again, I am using this first ship as a practicum and experimentation.

Fine looking model you have built  :) As for fuzzy lines , you can run the rigging line through a block of wax or if the rigging is already on , a 50/50 mix of water and white glue . Dip a cotton ball into the solution , squeeze out the excess  and run it over the rigging .

Caronade details added. I decided to enhance my built. The original plan were not very detailed or telling the way to rig the caronade. I tried to find information on the web, but nothing for my specific ship, so I looked for different ship from the same era for details.
