SawdustDave got a reaction from Harvey in Sovereign of The Seas by SawdustDave - FINISHED
It's about time to get on with something else for a while.
I decided the entire port side is pretty much "practice" for the starboard side. Just saying, since I plan to display this ship in a glass case built several years ago, the port side may never be seen again after she goes into that case.
For what it's worth, here is the port side ornamentation.
I've not decided what I will create for the top right panel seen here.
One note about the galleries.... I find some SOS builds with the outer windows left open. I decided I prefer the open outer windows which allows a view into the inner windows.

Not a great modeler George, but I've got a pretty good eye for great modeling. Nothing wrong with setting high standards.... Right?
I know I'll never become a "great" modeler, but I'm damned sure I can be a "better" modeler.
Stay tuned mate.

Undecided George. As you can see, I used an awful lot of the drawings from the old plan sheets.... and can't say I'm real pleased with the overall image presented. Like I said, the starboard side just might be completely different. Plenty of time to think about it since I'm now going to return to the decks for a while.

I've seen some of your work in person Dave- you ARE a great modeler! I am still marveling at the one with the extensive rigging!

Thanks Patrick, George, Pete, and everyone else for all the "like" posts.
Please don't take my comments wrong.... It's just that I have such high regard for the incredible beauty of the SOS, I am probably expecting way too much from myself.

Hi Dave
She's looking absolutely superb! To be honest, you call it 'practice'. But, I call it anything but practice! I just struggle to think how I could've even done half of what you've achieved so far.
I look forward to your next update.
Cheers
Patrick

First attempted this as a carving in vinyl (seen on the right).... ran into problems with sharpness.
So I went back to Sculpey. This was taken after removing from the oven and cleaning up the edges preparing for gilding.

And that is another lesson learned by me from a great master. Thanks Danny.

These two figures will stand atop the middle roof of the portico....
It appears the male figure on the right is giving some sort of signal to the enemy on behalf of King Charles....
King Chuck was a real hoot.

Hmm... complementary $15 pedicure for I'm guessing $3000 of veterinary bills. Sounds like a good deal, Toni. It's an axiom among us veterinarians that if there is to be a "complication" it will always be a physician or lawyer's pet. I hope she continues to improve under you home care and remember - she's as likely to eat your new galley oven as she is her treats!

Let me give you an example of life getting in the way. For the last 8 days I have been dealing with a sick dog. To make a long story short, my 12 y/o dog stopped eating and was obviously in pain. Two trips to the vet later, an X ray demonstrated a foreign body in her stomach. Off to surgery we go. She becomes critically ill during the night and a repeat X ray was performed. The overnight vet called to ask why they had only removed one of the two foreign bodies! Back to surgery the next day to remove the other two foreign bodies. She has been teetering on the edge of life all week but decided to eat some scrambled eggs today. They have decided she is depressed and, besides, I am a physician, so she would do better at home. So now it is six medications, each on a different dosing schedule, syringe feedings and hourly walks since (for the docs and vets out there) she is starting to mobilize the 4 kg of fluids she acquired during her holiday. At least she got a complimentary nail clip.
For you savvy dog people out there, the middle foreign body is the Daily Growl, a white plastic squeaky toy that she has not had access to in several years.
