    Thanks, Bob!
My first experiences as a kid were with model railroading. You know how the model RR guys love to depict everything weathered and beat up. I guess it stuck...
Well I finally completed the hull... yay! I did a few more passes with the pigments, pencils and erasers and then applied about five thin coats of Krylon matte clear. I made some 12 pound cannonballs from a string of 4mm beads from Goodwill (great place to find cool stuff) by unstringing them then filling one hole with Testors putty. A coat of primer, some touchup and then a coat of Metalizer burnt iron. I also have some 3mm beads to use for the 9 pounders. I'm waiting on some Syren blocks and then I'll rig and permanently mount the gun carriages.

I'm really undecided about the mortar. I finally made a carriage I'm satisfied with and would really like to include it. The stern seems so empty... I'd have to make some mods to the awning battens and other stuff but it's doable. I'm getting close to having to make a final decision before I go much further... any yeas or nays?
BTW, Slim"s not DOA (although technically he IS dead...) and he'll be back!
Here's some progress shots outside in sunny St. Pete FL:

    Hi all,
I got a lot of detail stuff done, not real obvious but necessary. I decided to tone down the nailing with an eraser and generally even out the overall "patina". I rebuilt the 12 pounder cannonball racks, adding storage underneath for bar shot, chain shot and other stuff. I finished the storage cabinets in the stern, using doll house hinges (not functional). Added a bunch more bolts and nuts, and installed all the inside hardware. Next is to mount and rig the cannons, then start on the mast and other deck stuff.

Those are the Mr Color "Acrysion" acrylic paints. My local supplier carried the Acrysion line before they acquired the Mr Color lacquer paints which is why I have both sets. Acrysion paints are similar to Tamiya acrylics, in fact, I use the Mr Color 400 thinners to reduce both brands of paint. In my opinion, the Mr Color 400 leveling thinner is the best that's out there on the market. It should be noted these thinners are not compatible with some acrylics such as Vallejo for example. It will instantly curdle that paint, so test to be sure. I do know for sure they work with great superiority for Mr Color and Tamiya paints.

Sorry to read about that wreck, Craig. But a heck of a recovery.  It looks good.  It's a big bird.

At first, I thought it was doomed to the scrap pile. This is a surprisingly heavy model.

Suffered a bit of a setback today as while I was handling the Avenger model, butter-fingered it, then watched it fall from chest-high to land smack down on the ceramic tile floor. It broke away both horizontal stabilizers as well as the rudder separated from the vertical stabilizer. In addition, I lost two rocket mounts and had to scratch build two replacements. It could have been worse...lots worse, so I am thankful the damage was minimal considering how far it fell and the hard floor it landed on.
In the photos, I am dry fitting the underwing components and the bomb bay doors. Note the aircraft has two radar array antennae on each side of the wings. Didn't realize the Avenger was radar equipped until I built this model. There are still numerous detail items to add as well as decals and paint details. I might leave the rockets off, but have not decided yet.

Yeah they have CD I'll take a pic you have to put them together.I could not get the seven exhaust pipes from the front cyl to the back exhaust collar to connect so that engine will to be covered. The other engine I want open and need to figure out what I did wrong and I built it in their sequence I know to pay attention on the next one.Well I got the rod for the motor figured out and started the base inside the engine/gear bay going.Thks for looking in Kevin

I have not been idle just building small models within the big one!The engines just the the engine I think I counted 74 parts not including the exhaust out the back, cowling, cowling covers and the front cowling probably right at 100+ pieces for each engine and only one done thus far.I notice a boo boo on the paint scheme all the glass framing was silver on the whole plane so a remask and paint was in order.I am also starting to work on the electric motor part with one of the wires being a hydraulic line for the landing gear.I think I found my mechanics kinda pricey but I think will work also received my Pilot/crew used ICM  cheaper and should do well . Craig thanks for posting that video.  So informative at only six minutes!

I’ve noticed the limitations on using a smaller needle airbrush (I have a 0.35 Iwata Eclipse I believe).  Any recommendations on which of the three Iwatas for painting/pruning larger models?  Wasn’t sure whether to go 0.5, 0.6, or 1.0.  I’ve got a few in the stash, including the 1/350 Akagi 😉

That paint job looks really sharp Craig.  Very nice job!

Nice to be organized.  I went a slightly different route but considered a modular system like yours.  All I can say is that it feels good having things organized and out of the way.  Now maybe I can stop losing my 6" rulers.  I think I have 4 of them, usually because 3 of them seem to go missing for long stretches.

The good news is, you don't have to spend anywhere near $200 for a good airbrush for applying primers or clear coats. This cheap single action Badger will work just fine for that, less than $30. As long as you have a double action airbrush for your finer work, you're all set.

It's not an Iwata by name, but it's made in Japan and it's rumored to be made in the same factory as the Iwata. Excellent airbrush for large areas and primer. The price is great, too. High quality. Easy to get parts if needed.
