Craig thanks for posting that video.  So informative at only six minutes!

I’ve noticed the limitations on using a smaller needle airbrush (I have a 0.35 Iwata Eclipse I believe).  Any recommendations on which of the three Iwatas for painting/pruning larger models?  Wasn’t sure whether to go 0.5, 0.6, or 1.0.  I’ve got a few in the stash, including the 1/350 Akagi 😉

Just a helpful video for my friends and fellow modelers. Yes, it means you might want to invest a little more in your hobby.

Is it me, or does it seem like the Italians put wonderful lines and other design elements in everything they make?  Clothes, cars, warships, etc.

    Hello my friends

it's been a long time since my last entry. Well, I was busy with the sails. The rigging is going on very well, there is no real problem around. The plans could be more clearly, but if you take your time and read the drawings exactly you will have no problem with the sails.

I still have to make three sails then the Fregatte Berlin will be fiished. Some coils are necessary and some smaller jobs as always.

No more words - just enjoy the pics. They show the status quo (no... not the band :))

Thank you very much for commenting. the zulu is already finished, just in the absence of the showcase manufacturing.

Not to dredge up the evils of PE, but here are some pictures of what I've been dealing with on the 1/700 side.  Might make you feel better

So what I’m awaiting from China (apparently it’s on the way but everything is so slow due  to the flu), Shipyard works upgrade with a wooden deck as well apparently

I decided to use strip wood as recommended on the stern and stem posts. But I decided to soak the planks, shape them slightly and applied them while wet. I then used a heat gun to dry out the planks, which help keep their shape. There  was only slight splintering on a few edges, which will be sanded down anyway. I also laid a planking strip down the center of the bottom of the hull, to hide the plywood keel and give it a more finished look even though it will be painted. I also used a little bondo on the top of the front deck where I noticed a little dip on one side of the deck. It would have stuck out like a sore thumb once the final planking was done had I not fixed it and leveled it off with the bondo.

If I were to build this boat again, I would put the built up stern and stem posts on BEFORE the planking of the final side planking where the planking could have been feathered into the posts rather than having to cut and trim both stern and stem and get the posts applied and look proper.

The ports indeed are spaced different lengths from each other along the hull.  However, when you look at the ship from the profile side, due to the curvature in the hull, they look equally spaced on the two-dimensional image.

I guess what I meant to say is that if a kit manufacturer set up the bulkheads in such a way that a gunport would fall in the middle of the two bulkheads, it would greatly simplify measuring where the ports should lie on the hull (you would essentially just have to measure the vertical distance, which is a little easier if you can measure up from the deck).

Thanks JP.  Yours is the only log I've found (besides the one on the Russian site) and I check your pictures constantly.  Are you still working on yours?

That paint job looks really sharp Craig.  Very nice job!

Nice to be organized.  I went a slightly different route but considered a modular system like yours.  All I can say is that it feels good having things organized and out of the way.  Now maybe I can stop losing my 6" rulers.  I think I have 4 of them, usually because 3 of them seem to go missing for long stretches.
