Jack12477 reacted to Blue Ensign in HMS Sphinx 1775 by Blue Ensign - FINISHED - Vanguard Models - 1:64 scale
Thank you James, that's reassuring to know, I am very much impressed by the box art photos of your build which clearly show the plank lines.
I do hope I can replicate the effect; I am hand painting so I think fine coats are the order of the day.🤞

Always welcome
Further construction
In some parts the connection between the sprue and part is much too thick (my opinion)
This simplifies the injection molding to the parts during production. But there's more cleanup to do for the modeller
ready for painting
base color
wheel-track part ready for assembly
Thanks for following

Jack12477 reacted to Danstream in Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 by Danstream - FINISHED - Trumpeter - 1:48 - PLASTIC
Indeed, this is my first model of a Soviet aircraft and I had never been greatly attracted by them before because I thought they looked 'different'. However, lately I had the occasion to read more about these early jets and I was pushed to try one. Now, I am very intrigued by their being 'different', by their look and by their engineering. Surely this will not be my last one. Thanks for your appreciation of my work! 😉
Thanks Alan, happy that you like it. The result of the panel lines depends a lot on how good is the model. In this case, the finesse of the starting pieces was not bad, but, because of extensive filling and sanding I had to scribe again the lost details (I did not do all of them, though because it is such a boring work). Here is where you need same more skills. Otherwise, the process is not difficult and capillarity and chemistry do most of the job for you. 🙂
Thanks also for all the likes!

I am happiest with the Martk IV but they were all fun to work on.

Jack12477 reacted to mtaylor in HMS Sphinx 1775 by mtaylor - FINISHED - Vanguard Models - 1:64
This isn't really an update but a suggestion.....
I'm working on the quarter galleries and I hit instructions 218 to 220. I was trying to figure out how to install that piece and running into problems... tweezers didn't work... too thick. Finally, I took a bit of scrap wood to use as a spacer and glued it to the piece then glued it into place. As a side note, I think it was about 0.8 mm thick for the spacer but was trying different thicknesses until I found one that worked.

good evening everyone
whilst i decide what to do with the torpedo's in a diorama setting i have in mind, i got on with the tubes
Confession time, i made the tubes up yesterday morning, not feeling very well at all and well just glued two halves together, well the result was not as expected, each of the 8 tube halves has its own number on the sprue NOT one pair was correct so all dismantled and redone, a real pain as they did not want to part at all, i think with all the added detail they came out all right i have primed them now
the larger compartment pieces have also had a coat of primer on them the deck head as had the light fitting drilled out to take a 3mm lamp
each tube when built correctly goes into position A-D
primer on the top one
still to sort the ends out and decide which one is going to be open

good morning everyone
not much of an update, i wasn't very well yesterday, having had a Covid booster on Thursday, all 3 injections have knocked me back for 24 hours, im fine today
my intentions are to build as the the instructions, and not leap about doing bits i fancy
page one section one Torpedo's
the kit kits provides 12 of these , and the first 5 will be hidden under the decking, i am making them all up and will take the best for other areas as the build progresses
each one is made up from 6 parts
the PE addons replace the nose fuse, the propellers and some inspection points
U-552 was fitted with five 53.3 cm (21 in) torpedo tubes (four fitted at the bow and one at the stern), fourteen torpedoes,

Jack12477 reacted to king derelict in British WW1 Whippet tank by king derelict - FINISHED - Emhar - 1/72 - PLASTIC
I painted the matt varnish onto the Whippet and then touched up the rusty exhausts and the machine guns which had been dulled down too much by the dust layer.
I think that finishes this one. I would like to get another kit and attempt a diorama based on the photo that Bruce provided. I think it would make an interesting scene.
Thank you all for looking in and providing help and comments

Very nicely done Alan.
I do have one question though. I thought that the flat panel to the right of the forward gun was the drivers viewport. Wouldn't that be clear? Or did they have a steel cover that could be dropped into place and just used the tiny gun viewing slits for navigation?

Jack12477 reacted to Egilman in 1940 Auto Repair Shop Interior by FriedClams - Finished - Diorama in 1:87
Absolutely agree with the photo statement... and a suggestion for the tranny, take the tail shaft housing you cut off mount it to the tranny body vertically, then mount an "S" shaped wire as the shift level and put a knob on the end... On the left side of the bell housing mount a short tapered square rod for the clutch lever.... Voila instant 3-speed top loader!!! PERFECT!!!

In my day, the girly calendars in demand were given out to customers by Rigid Tools. Probably not found in a mechanic’s garage, as In those days Rigid’s principal products were tools for the pipefitting trades.

Really, you might get some backlash? I think that pretty much goes without saying, LOL.
Gary, regarding the 'shop'. the guy at the bench really adds to the overall 'feel'. It reminds me a lot of the boat repair shop. It's getting to look more like a photograph with each update.
And I agree with Mark, removing the tail of the transmission is going to make it look more like a standard.

Jack12477 reacted to mtaylor in 1940 Auto Repair Shop Interior by FriedClams - Finished - Diorama in 1:87
Looking great, Gary. The mech at the bench is definitely a plus. As for the engine... a bit late but you could cut off the "tail" of the transmission. Given the angle it was originally sitting at, it would look more like a manual trans and the ignition cables would be visible.. See attached photo on what I'm talking about.
As an aside.. the "train your wife" photo wouldn't fly and depending on who sees the shop, you might get some backlash. LOL

"Train Your Wife, FREE booklet shows you how" ....... a bit of fanciful science fiction reading is a good way to pass idle time between honey do's.

The girly magazine laying around may not be too probable, but possibly these on the walls? Well possibly not the second one.

Very well done. It looks good on it's base and a diorama has a lot of potential.

I air brushed the matt coat and tidied up a few details and installed the ditching beam and chains. I think this is complete. Its been a lot of fun and I am tempted to get another one and make a small base / diorama to show it rearing up on the lip of a trench - and then I could get a bit wild with the mud effects.
Thanks for looking and commenting
Alan
And to show the Mark IV and the Whippet with the Renault and the AV7

Jack12477 reacted to MikaH in Z30 by MikaH - Trumpeter - 1:350 - PLASTIC
Alright, all doohickeys, whatchamacallits, and even a couple of thingamajigs that were rolling around in the box have been attached. I was looking at the supplied railing etch sheet, and while I suppose nice enough in a generic sort of way, I really couldn't figure out how to do a decent job of dealing with the rising bow, nor with splicing two pieces together for the aft, as the supplied runs are too short for the main deck.
I ended up ordering the etch set for Dragon's rendition of Z-32, hoping it'll give me some railings that are more usable.
In short, next steps are the railings, and then the dirtying-up of a ship hiding in a fjord.
Until then, here's how she looks right now:
