Few days ago I have returned onto the board (prow section) and started to make various details. I try to make them according to historical facts and original models from museums to achieve more realistic result. Best regards, Doris- 881 replies

Hello dear friends! I appreciate your comments a lot and thank you very much for your kind words. That´s a really pleasure for me. I feel also happy among our students and must say, that I like my work indeed. I enjoy the teaching when I am able to give them knowledge and useful experience for their life. A lot of them know about my hobbies and they often come to my office to see, what is new on models ( i show them pics in my computer). Some of them also watch my work on forums from home and occasionally ask me, how i make this or that..... Once I even showed them, how i shape the modelling clay, so i brought it to school and during breaktime i created a small horse - figure for them. And now Royal Caroline and new progress..... I have completely changed the draft scale to achieve realistic rendition. http://modelforum.cz/viewtopic.php?f=177&t=68385&start=480#p1436217 A lot of valuable information gives me a top expert and Captain with whom I also cooperated on Sovereign of the seas and HMS Victory.- 881 replies

Thank you a lot for your comments, dear friends, I am pleased you like my work. There is still a lot of things I should improve in my work so I have motivation to learn and try new ways.... Numerals are printed on matt photo paper (using ink printer), then oversprayed by acrylic clear varnish and after drying the numerals are cut out and placed on the model. It is necessary to achieve as thin layer of paper as possible so I separate bottom layers of paper using knife and tweezers. How did you know? You are absolutely right, I really work as a teacher at high school and I like my work a lot. Here is a pics - me (in the middle) among some of our students: Kind regards, Doris- 881 replies

Hello dear friends! Thank you very much for your comments and praise, I feel privileged to be here together with you and appreciate it a lot. Thank you also for watching my build. Hello Peter, I use synthetic fabric and after sewing they are painted and impregnated.I will show my procedure again in this thread. Hello Jan, Royal Caroline is at this moment my best card model, I really enjoy the work on her and this is reflected in the result. I know, there are still some things I should make better, but it is important to learn and search new ways how to improve. This is a thick paper, you can find it for example on boxes for packaging.... Kind regards, Doris- 881 replies

Hello dear friends! I am very honoured you like my work, thank you very much for your comments, I appreciate them a lot. Hello Anja, I have just started with decoration and furniture, soon I will bring some pics. Kind greetings to you and your husband. Hello Johann, I use special foils with wooden look for finishing the surface. I work with these self-adhesive foils for many years and I am very satisfied with the durability and unchanging shape and colour. For example: http://www.fototapety.cz/4174-imitace-dreva-d-c-fix/ http://www.tapety-folie.cz/samolepici-tapety/drevo/c-2757/ Hello Greg, I often create some crew members for size ratio of the ship and also try to make realistic clothes from that period. All these figures are hand-made from clay and some of them are created according to real people i know. I am going to bring another video- tutorial, how to make these figures. Thank you, I am pleased and honoured. Of course, I plan to make full rigging on Caroline. I like that work and prefer complete sailing ships with rigging and sails, it gives a monumental appearance. Hello Floyd, I make paper models for many years, I have started when I was only six years old. There are still some things, I should improve at my work, but I make models for joy and relax and like to share them with my friends. Kind greetings to you and your wife. Hello cabrapente, the work with clay is enjoyable and after training it is no problem to create anything you like. Best regards, Doris- 881 replies

RC has already finished decoration on the bow bulkhead. All these sculptures come from my fantasy, cause there are no exact information about original design of these sculptures in the book Anatomy of the ship. So I designed my own...- 881 replies

The bow section was completed by grid (made of wood), I suppose it is more practical than empty space between railing (it is missing in Royal Caroline plans in the book Anatomy of RC).- 881 replies

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
