Ok back on board again.
Having gathered some very fine blocks etc.
These from Syren models.
Plus working in a new location,(warmer as winter comes), so all these items will keep me busy over the festive season.
The parts on the right are white metal from Blue Jacket, have roped all 16 for later fixing to the spars.
Working on the figures too.
These are a very nice addition and are in kit form, will bee needing a few of these later.
They are again from Syren models, and with a little care can be made to work.

foxy reacted to Force9 in USS Constitution by Force9 - Revell - PLASTIC - Revisiting the classic 1/96 kit
Thank you Tim, Christian, Stuart, and Frank for your continued interest... Thanks to everyone who clicked the LIKE button!
Tim - I'm not sure where a kit bash crosses over to becoming a scratch build... I'm almost certain that I've modified every kit component I've used or otherwise replaced it with something scratch built. I really don't think I've yet used anything straight from the box. All part of the fun!
Stuart - I used Plastruct rod 4.0mm and 4.8mm (#s 90862, 90863) for the wheels/trucks. I made a simple jig using scrap styrene to keep a consistent width. I used drill bit sizes 11/64 and 3/16 to drill holes in the styrene that I built up to the appropriate thickness. After snipping off some narrow slices from the rod, I'd insert them into the jig and file them flush to the styrene surface. I made multiple holes in the jig surface so that as the jig was worn down with the filing I could rotate to another hole and maintain the approximate width. I could make a dozen or so before everything was filed down too far and I had to add new holes to the jig.
Haven't had much shop time, but slowly making more wheels.
Thanks for keeping tabs

foxy reacted to omarcs in Cutty Sark by omarcs - Scientific Models - scale 1:140 approx
After putting 1 set of bow guard chains on and not liking the result, I added a rail on the top gallant bulwark. I was able to soak the basla and bend it. I used titebond glue which sets rapidly so I did not have to try and figure out how to clamp it. The stern wood bending did not go well, I got kinks in both sides so out came the razor saw and I cut off the offending sections. I cut pieces that mostly fit and used a rasp to bring to finished shape. I diluted the paint (craft type acrylic) and got the look I wanted which was to look similar to existing paint applied 40 years ago. And now I have a deck littered with stove pipes, bits, wheel house. Lifeboats are on a cookie sheet with other parts I removed. No wonder I am not finished - I keep removing stuff.
Admiral liked the finished rail!!
I was not happy with bow guard chain but I check size in scale and it is about 4 foot (1 meter) tall and that seems to me to be about right so I will see how it looks on new rail.

Offended we might be as builders of model ships.
A market there might be, but time will tell if these sell.
I think most of us build these ships(accurately) for our own pleasure.
So I can see the objection. but its the enjoyment of building that is Important.
Happy modelling folks.

But Aldo, there's still 9 left to sell. I noted that he/she sold one of them.
For a good laugh, go look at the Constitution and Cutty Sark they're selling. Looks like the same model with a different paint job.

That's a fine specimen you have there Daniel.
I recon that waist height from chimney to floor would be about right for 1/100 scale.
You posting that to some one with all that writing on!!!!!.

Even though too big for my own build, I could not resist to finish this small kit ...
... and the best: It came with two sets of decals :-)
One in original english production and one as frensh bounty. As the second was rather uncommon I decided to opt for the english version.
But me and decals ...
... but with loads of softener I finally succeded :-)

Almost as important as the small mobil but too big forge is the surrounding bits (after Goodwin):
Beside the gunsmith, his helpers, anvil and hammer was needed:
- 3 man on the elm tree pump to pump and to keep clear the house to the forge
- wetten deck nicely and spread sand
- 3 buckets full of sand
- 3 buckets of water for emergencies and to harden the goods
- keep the fire small
- the 3 fireman have to man the pump until everything is off for sure and all the ashes are lowered overboard in an iron bucket to the lee side
- check everywhere if any hazards could be still found
Cheers, Daniel
@Keith: weevils were out, so he had to take the bug-less pizza ...

Here the Tic-Tac-shot.
One can see the bellows underneath, just the handle broke off, still find the attachment on the left side.

foxy reacted to robnbill in USS Constitution by robnbill (Bill) - FINISHED - Mamoli - 1:93 kit - First Build - Bashed
I thought I would take a break and finally post a photo of where I am on the Connie. I am continuing to rig the lower main shrouds. I had a small setback yesterday when I noticed that months ago when I rigged the deadeyes to the chainplates I inadvertently missed one of the deadeye holes. So yesterday I noticed as I was rigging that the two sides did not match. It was pretty easy then to see my mistake. Since the chains were one of the components that was short in the kit, I had to make a new pair. I did this using brass wire. First I bent a small piece into the lower chain plate. This I soldered in the middle, then drilled three holes. One in each end and one in the middle. Then I took a second piece of wire and bent the connecting chain. After blackening I attached it to the ship and touched it up with black paint where the brass showed through. I have attached a photo showing the new chainplate installed. It is the second from the right.
I am continuing to work on the main deadeyes and should have the lower main shrouds completed today.

Jan of course gave the right direction, Frank got it on the spot.
It is the small mobile furnise as seen on Vic today. It was never presented as it ended up to be some 10 % to 15% too big ...
... the funnel hits the deck beams - no good idea.
Will do another one in time. Perhaps this one will find a place on a 1:90 or 1:72 Vic, the size would be better for those scales :-)
Cheers, Daniel

Me nether, vandalism I call it.
Glad its plastic and not wood, but interesting prospect.
As usual you surprise us at every turn Daniel.
Good luck and plenty of pointers in your build, but this is one I will not be following.
