Thats what I was thinking mate,  I am just attaching the breach rope then I will glue the cannon down with a bit of ca,  then I will do the same the other side - then after fitting the ships wheel, I will then be able to glue the poop deck in place.

some nice clean work OC.........some rig and some don't.   if the cannon won't be visible,  it isn't a crime if you don't do the complete rigging.

Latest work on the bench including finishing my first cannon off - minus the breach rope (I have not been to fussy with the first one and two  as they will be manily hidden out of view under the poop deck over hang)    I also fitted two rings into the bulwarks (this was a tricky job as I had limited room to get an angle to use my small finger drill,  I had to come in at an angle over the top of the opposit side bulwark.
I then pinched in the hoop in the ring pins to close them up sligtly, then pushed them into the holes and added a drop of CA  by a narrow pin head.

After I painted the rings black.
The pics show - my cannon  and  views of the rings,   also a view with the poop deck dry fitted  - and finally  an almost sucsessful  view through the opposit side gunport showing the poopdeck stairs and behind that the cannon.

Thank you warmly and sincerely for all the likes and views - it means a lot.

    Hi Denis
It is good to see your ideas and progress for this kit. It is very lucky it got someone as imaginative as you to see the possible improvements. It will surely be many steps above the out of the box kit that to be honest was little more than a toy at best.

OK......are you ready for this?   here is a priceless example of working on the fly.   it's not painted yet,  but I think this idea will work out wonderfully.   the first thing to do is fix the transom and bulwark.   trimmed down to equal the other side......5 mm.......the top edges was sanded to straighten them out.   a line was drawn across the transom to get a sense of how much to cut off.   I was about to get the saw,  when I got an idea about the shape of the transom.

I then started to whittle away at the outer edges of the transom with my x-actor.   after a bout of sanding to smooth it all out,  it now looks like this.

the deck layout is as such.   the two structures are much smaller than the outlines.   putting them on there,  I started thinking of how to plank the deck.  I also want to add bulwark posts and other related detail.

above in the picture,  you can see that I brought out the extra detail sheet I got for the Thermopylae........finding that it wouldn't work,  I began thinking of other ways to achieve what I wanted to do.   one thing I though,  was the structures are too low on the deck.  so,  I decided to add 1/8 to the thickness......I have plenty of scrap around to do it.

meanwhile,  I took the stand in the other room and stained it with dark walnut.

we all have dealt with these 'plugs' from time to time.......solid wood,  with the end sides that seem to suck up the paint.   with some 1/32nd scrape wood,  I traced and cut out the front,  back,  and sides for the main structure, and glued them on.

the hull was ready for the rub rails too......so these were next to be done.   for the cap rails,  I'll do something a little different.......I'll line the top edges,  sand them flush and paint over them.  I still need to do the inner bulwark posts and stuff.

I have the 25 mm wide strips of mahogany for the roof of the structures......I will also be adding companionways as well.   I want to add portholes ......I have just the thing.......those eyelets that I've been talking about.   I picked out the smallest ones I have.

I have a ton of these little buggers........different sizes and finishes.....I chose the white ones.   drawing a line along the sides,  holes were drilled and they were dry fitted in place.

the portholes will be filled with window maker,  and when dry,  will be painted inside with yellow or white......whatever will show through the best.   now....the outline for this particular structure doesn't match the structure shape.......I'll have to think of what to do with the other part of the outline.   adding the sides on these structures will allow them to fit the outline shape a lot more.  when I plank the deck,  I'll cover the excess over so they will fit better,  but I have the feeling that I'll end up planking the entire deck and cement the structures on top.   I'll also have to keep in mind to drill out the holes marked off on the deck.   the stand was given two coats of clear lacquer.......

....and here is a dry fit of the structures on the deck

you can see the area behind the main structure that I mentioned.   I will have to look at the drawing to see what that is all about.  more to come

Looking very nice my friend,  I completely  get what you mean with the filler  - so much better if it can be applied in small doses and controled just where you want it.

thanks Ben........if you do try it out,  be sure to thin the filler to the consistency of a thick cream so it will extrude well enough.   it will dry just as fast,  if not faster,  so no worries there.   the tips can be purchased separately,  or combined in assorted paint sets.   the next update is shaping up to be quite fun.  stay tuned

She's a good looking hull! I like your idea of using the fine tips for the putty. I might have to try that one.

thanks for the kind comments gents    this one was 'one of those things'.......I was going to get back to the Thermopylae......then I was going to bring out the Half Moon,  but I was in question about the dead eyes....and then there was the Trawler.   I ordered life raft bins for her.....deciding against an open boat,  but they are too small in my opinion {I should post a picture so you folks don't think I forgot about her...again}.  I found this model sitting on my door step one day.   I have never heard of the manufacturer..looked old.....so I did some digging and found this:
    https://authenticmodels.com/nautical/sailing-ships/
I also think it looks really nice......that is,  until I found that it's a solid hull model.  I only have one in my stash.......a Marine Models kit of a PT boat {PT 10}....I have never done one before.   after some deliberation,  the box ended up on the table,  and I went off to get the table in the spare room back in operation.  that ended with me play'in in the Nordkap box,  separating all the wood {I so want to start it....ohhhhh,  the plans I have }.   back at the main table,  the box opened and I found myself looking over the hull and plans....I saw what is there......and isn't there......and that was enough......it had me with the planking idea.
I know this is a lot of ishkabibble......and I don't advise anyone traveling the same wormhole that I do,  but I find it fun......crazy,  but fun.  the other day,  I whipped up notepad,  and listed all of my projects and kits I have.....you know,  I'm afraid to show you   my signature doesn't tell the whole story....good thing......there wouldn't be room.

hello John........what the heck was I working on when you left?.......oh yea....the Norden >giggle<   glad to have you back and look'in in.......I hope all went as you hoped.

thanks Patrick.......yes,  I have a couple of them.   two I have named....the Half Moon and the Thermopylae.......I have the Gothenborg,  but that model has taken a couple of falls,  so I'd have to see if it's salvageable {I'm sure it is}.  I'd have three others,  but I'm steadfast in not starting that project yet {hard for me....gotta tell ya that}     I have a 'what if' in the planning stage for a cloning of the Thermopylae hull,  but I'm keeping that on the back burner as well.  so.....no,  they're not out of the realm for me...there are some plastic kits too {but they're still in boxes}.

thanks Piet......I enjoy them too.   the gent that sent me this kit,  thought it would compliment the Norden.  I'm making it a point to display them side by side.  with any luck,  I might be able to add a few bells and whistles to this model,  and make it a bit more interesting

thanks to those who hit the like button    the planking came out surprisingly well........as usual for me,  there are a few spots that need attention.   I didn't think I'd enjoy this new table as much as the old main table,  but it looks more 'lived in',  now that I've build a model on it.   the hood above had turned out real handy as a storage shelf.   I did manage to repair the light {cheap fastening clips},  even though I don't like how little light it lends to the work surface.   I might figure out some way to host a crane light,  sometime down the road.

I did manage to do the filler work........I use those tips that Testor's supplies for their tubes of plastic cement.   I'm able to extrude a fine bead every time,  which in some cases,  it's better than slathering a hull in it,  and then having to sand it all off.   terrible waste

I thin the filler down with water too,  so I can scrape some of the excess away,  or better define a corner.   the hull has undergone some sanding,  being careful to leave some of the plank lines.

the starboard bow needs a bit more to lose some of the larger lines.......I've added more filler since the pictures were taken.   I'll touch it up and move on towards trimming the stern and transom,  and other things external on the hull.   paint may also be in the plans.......ya never know.

    Piet,
my apologies, in was imprecise in my choice of words. What I was commenting on was my experimenting with the BJB tints in a polyester resin we use for fiberglass at the shop I work at. What I should have said is the BJB tints DISPERSE well in the polyester resin.
    So sorry for the confusion.
