Piet reacted to cog in IJN Musashi by cog - Tamiya - 1:350 - PLASTIC - old tool
Thanks Pat, about the frustrations ... I'm not so certain ... there is a level one shouldn't exceed to avoid throwing with things

Thanks Piet. You need larger pictures ... hmmm. I'll need to take my tilt/shift lens out. The only one with a wide enough angle ...

Nice work Carl, plenty of detail and well worth the frustrations.
Mark - I wouldn't recommend wax of any type unless you are absolutely sure you will get it all off before painting?
cheers
Pat

very well done Kevin.....have you figured how to add the tail section to the helo? all painted up, it's gonna look really good in there! love the interior work you've done in there

doors will be open, i am waiting for led lights now to give some feeling to it and then sort the hanger roof out.there will be warm white and red led lighting in there

well the hanger has a helo in it now, lol not that anyone in a maritime site would care, but i had to, my hands were tied, it has a fairly cheap basic OOB build, and I even left some bits off, the rotors blades were a pain as they were not design to fold like that
here is what i am trying to copy (not my photo)
the kit
my attempt so far

Good evening everyone
spent quite a bit of time today on the hanger internal details, even though artistic licence applies i am happy with it, especially as when the helo is parked in front of it very little will be seen
before being primed i put a cage under the landing
primed with Halfords rattle can grey
then in Citadel white which is quite a flat white
using part of the spruce from the Bismark build, i formed a few water pipes
which then were primed in red and added
then made a set of hand rails for the landing
and placed into its home for the night

today i detailed a few bits, very much artistic licence, but if the rivet counters want to pick me up, LOL it means they have a photo, that being the case I will change it

the office has been remade (3rd or 4th time) most likely the 10th
just one door and put a desk inside not that you will ever see it
and then put a platform in, to see if it looks in scale i taped some of the helo together

Good evening everyone
the hanger idea did not work for me, when the door is cut the whole superstructure became to flexible, so back to the drawing board
the solution I came up with was to make an internal hanger to fit inside the main body
this has firm everything up and it is removable
helicopter arrived

Piet reacted to popeye the sailor in Jeanne D'Arc by popeye the sailor - FINISHED - Heller - 1:400 - PLASTIC
yesterday, after going as far as I could with the Jolly Rogers, I assembled the super structure....part of it, anyway. it's made up of five parts, and the fit was kinda wonky. I might have to use a little putty to fill the bigger imperfections.
the top part will be equally as tough to add to it.......these kits aren't like the good old days, when the superstructure usually consisted of two parts {halves}. they most likely still do....haven't done one of these modern ship in quite a while.
then I figured that I would assemble the main parts of the helicopters. for those with eagle eyes, you might have seen it.....but I didn't. as I was removing the halves from the sprues, I saw that a tail section was broken off one of the halves I didn't find it in the box itself, so I looked in the bag. nestled in the odd bits was the broken piece!---------->RELIEF!!!
you might be able to see the break line. through some dry fitting, I got to see how the elevator will look. I do have some flash to deal with and the mold edges are a little flared......I'll be sand'in 'em down and squar'in them off.
more soon

last week, I was sitting at my desk, puttering 'round with Jeanne's hull........added the rudder and cemented them together. I did some sanding to the assembly joint.........waiting for paint now.

I didn't do a complete contents check until a week ago. the overall length of the model is 18 inches long. there are many really small parts, so I'm wondering if P.E. would be needed.....likely doubtful that a set is around for her anyway.
the instructions come in two large sheets.....three pages are the actual assembly instructions...the last page being text in different languages and the symbol chart.
the hull halves......
...and the parts to the vessel...
the kit comes with the parts for four Gazelle or Super Frelon helicopters......I'll need to figure out which. seen here, the blades are either spread out or retracted for storage.
the decal sheet......surprised that there are no decals for the helicopters.
I downloaded a Humbrol chart so I could cross reference the colors to model Master. too bad they don't have Humbrol at Hobby Lobby....sure I could find it somewhere. another favorite of mine was Pactra.
very few part fell off the sprues.......however at the bottom of the bag, was the flag sheet, chain, and the few parts that did fall off. can't be too careful
As mentioned..there are a lot of small parts. hope I don't lose any of them

Hi Denis...nice job on your Jolly Roger, the glowy one should be cool when done, you have to shot some night shots for us!

Wow, I wish I could do ratlines that fast .

Piet reacted to popeye the sailor in The Jolly Roger by popeye the sailor - Lindberg - 1:130 - PLASTIC
now she is masted and the shrouds are added. I still need to attach all the chains to the hull. I drilled out the holes for the back stays and have added the rings for the rigging. still thinking of adding a few more elsewhere.
-
Piet reacted to popeye the sailor in The Jolly Roger by popeye the sailor - Lindberg - 1:130 - PLASTIC
a few other small bits were eliminated also...when this ship glows, it will never be noticed. as for the cannons........well......I have an idea, but it means that I will need to clone a Thermopylae hull. should prove to be very interesting
I think I know now....what is to be done with the ratlines/shrouds. to do what is instructed, the slots need to be made wider, so the shrouds can be fitted just below the dead eye lanyards. the rest of what sticks out below, are to be the dead eye chains, fastened to the hull.

Piet reacted to popeye the sailor in The Jolly Roger by popeye the sailor - Lindberg - 1:130 - PLASTIC
when the hull was assembled and most of the deck stuff was added, it sat under the crane light. when I was done mess'in around, I shut everything down.......you should have seen the glow. I eliminated the cannons and shut all the gun ports...later, I will spray the hull with flat clear lacquer, to get rid of the glue marks and give the hull a flat look.

finally got the pictures in........had to feed the camera anyway.....here is the flag.
one of the lines came loose, so I had to fix that.......the Dutchman is in the background. got a couple of pictures for her as well......no big hoot, but somewhat neat to see. I did this one as the plans suggested....ran into a few issues, that I didn't when I did the J.R.

Thanks everyone for your concern. Gwen and I fared quite well, slept on and off through the night. No damage to the house or property. Yes, we lost power at the first stiff breeze. Power was restored two days later. No spoiled food. It also took the router power unit out so no computer and phone service, AT&T's idea of wireless all in one. Did not think about buying a new car charger for our new Galaxy 8 phones so we had to conserve battery power for possible emergency calls. One reason I couldn't call anyone. It took me two days to clear our yard of all the tree debris blown in and on top the roof blown in from neighbors properties. Still some stuff to take care of.
Areas just a few miles south of us like Ormond Beach and Daytona beach had a lot more damage but some by tornadoes.
So very sorry to hear about John and Diana (Texxn5). I'll try to contact you tomorrow after my semi-annual oncologist visit.
I fixed our router this afternoon and have gotten my computer back and the phone and Gwen's TV, which is very important - - - to her at least
Cheers,

Piet got a reaction from Omega1234 in USS Constitution by SawdustDave - FINISHED - 1:60th Scale
What kind of soldering method are using Dave? Soft solder or "hard" solder? The latter one comes in ready to use past form, just dab some on the join(s) and heat with a mini propane or butane torch. Soft solder can work good as well. Use a pencil type "iron" set to an appropriate temp and may use a heat-sink in places. I wish I lived closer by to give a hand but with some practice you can certainly produce acceptable results. So far they look okay but knowing you, you are not happy till you got what you are after. Keep plugging at it my friend.
