Alan if you want to get a good finish you will need to place some temporary strakes inside the model. Use PVA which you can easily remove with 90% alcohol when you are finished and you will never know you put them there. The problem with sanding at this point is that there is too much movement in the frames. The temporary strakes solve this problem. When you are happy with the outside you reverse the process and temporary plank the outside and sand the inside. kevin

On another note Greg there seems to be some question on the use of bronze sheaves or wooden ones. The book seems to indicate that in some cases bronze was used.?

Its an interesting response as in the Swan practium a number of the sheaves a number of the blocks contain Bronze sheaves.

I have been using a slight bevel to get a nice tight fit in some cases. In one case it resulted in my having to remake the piece 4 times. I do try to get the fit correct before using the bevel.

This cost me $15 and I was able to hook it up to the saw switch so it comes on when the saw is turned on. -

My iPad is giving trouble this morning. The answer is yes. The only thing is the time it takes the PVA to dry. I thought of using CA with the PVA to speed things up but so far have resisted. .

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
