    Yes. Sphinx will be £649.

It has well over double the amount of materials than Duchess, plus more expensive made to order thicknesses for pear sheet and planking (0.6 and 0.8mm)

I am still to complete the laser cutting of all parts, but I wouldn't be surprised if one kit takes the best part a day to cut - but won't know until I tally up the times for everything...

This is shaping up to be a beautiful model.  So much so it has reinvigorated my model making mojo.  Time to start the Lady Nelson and keep an eye out for when Sphinx is released for sale.

Good idea.  As a member of this forum for many years, at long long last I am setting up for my first scratchbuild model, and will be tackling David Antscherl's Hayling Hoy.  The book arrived yesterday, it looks a super little vessel to start with.

I live in the UK, and just ordered 4 books from them.  They arrived exactly two weeks from date of order so no complaints from me.  Shipping was eye watering it is true, but that is not their fault.  As for the books, well hats off to David Antscherl, Ed Tosti and Allan Yedlinsky, great inspiring work.

I appreciate the voices of support for SeaWatchBooks. As a lot of you know I am a one man band; sort of leader of the band. I have processed thousands of your orders over the years along with managing authors, editors, designers, computer graphics experts, fulfillment service people and my print management crew. Somewhere in this semi controlled confusion something goes wrong. We try and fix it with various degrees of success.
But as long as there is a good supply of duct tape and a hank of bailing wire I think we will be able to keep most of you happy.
    Thanks for your patience

I'd advise a little caution in using a drill chuck to hold a workpiece in the headstock of a lathe.  Such chucks are not designed to take lateral forces and could result in either inaccurate work, or worse, failure of the chuck, if overloaded.

If you cannot mount it securly in a 3 jaw chuck, then use a 4 jaw, failing that, a centre plate.

The same would apply if trying to carry out a milling operation in a pillar drill.

Ordering three books helps reduce the cost.  Whilst a Europe based distributor would be great if it saved money, the service from Seawatch and the quality of their books is well worth the price - I remember paying a small fortune in the 1970's for a volume of Boudroit's book on the 74 gun ship at the bookshop in Greenwich (sadly gone the way of Maritime Models which was opposite), that was then only available in french and I was buying it for the drawings.  Taking inflation into account, Seawatch books are great value even with the shipping cost.
