Thank you very much Mike. I did mask the funnel and bridge and use the airbrush. I did have to go back with the brush and tidy up after I added the detail. This one doesn’t have a lot of PE details in those areas and what there were got added later. Very basic compared to your Akitsushima.

That is looking Superb Alan,  I know I keep saying it  - but its 700 scale  I can not over stress just how small that it.

Looks really good Alan!  Your paint job is fantastic!  Did you mask the bridge and the funnel and airbrush to get the different colors?  Or did you just hand brush?  I have to do something similar with my Akitsushima and am a bit worried about masking with the delicate PE attached.

The details are now in place. It was a bit of a frustrating day at times. Place a boat, knock off a set of stairs, lose tiny pieces of PE etc.
The boats and davits are in place. The PE fret has boarding ladders for the boats but they are almost invisible when added and it’s quite crowded around the boats so they have been omitted. The foredeck railings went on quite nicely but for some reason the main deck ones were a fight and one side is a little distorted.
black wash has been added and a bit of dry brushed steel to bring up a few details like the tiny, tiny sights on the Bofors.
I was planning to add the pennant number decals but the sheet only provides G61 and G85 which are HMS Javelin and HMS Jupiter. HMS Kelly is F01. It’s a bit of an odd kit in that respect. The main sprue has quite a lot of bits left so I think it covers other J/K destroyers. The PE instructions are pretty basic and the paint guide is poor. Neither it nor the box art show any pennant numbers.
Tomorrow I will start the weathering of the hull.

Thanks for looking in, the likes and comments.

The second stack didn't turn out quite as nicely and wasn't quite as easy as the first, but it's done.

    And the build continues...

The PE parts arrive the other day, so I sprayed them with gray primer and just added the first ones to the forward funnel.

The locations are printed on the paper, but these rungs are a bit narrower than allowed for on the part. I decided to use the left-hand side as my registration line. I used a dress-making pin, pressed it against the printed mark, and spun the pin a bit. It actually kind of drilled a tiny hole or a big hole, depending on how hard I pressed and how much I spun the pin. But, it worked well enough.

I did the entire column this way and then just eyeball the other end and used the same procedure.

I inserted all the rungs and adjusted them, then I used some Aleene's Tacky Glue on the inside of the funnel where the rung ends stick out. I'm pretty satisfied that this is going to work.

This went a lot more smoothly and quickly than I'd expected. Plus, I don't think it turned out half bad. I have one more funnel to do, and then I this there are a few on the superstructure below the bridge.

Also, I want to figure out what to do about the guy wires leading down from the funnels. I have some fine EZ-Line, but I think it's actually too thin for these guy wires.

actually wheels don't need to be perfect as they are quite weathered and imperfections can be hidden easily.
With Tamiya I usually dont get the snowy and watery effect

So far? Mayo brown, then buff overspray, clear coat, layers of enamel washes. I’m not happy yet but when I get the top side stuff glued on including the railings and the tank I can go to work on it properly. There’s going to be a tank and a motorcycle on it

I got the final bits of fuselage added, which was a more demanding task than one might expect. The second-to-last section, abaft the gap for the horizontal stabilizer, is not simply oval in cross-section. Instead, it's a rectangle stacked atop an oval, but it tapers down to oval at the back. The skin for it is one piece, so a lot of work was required to get it to the right shape, and a lot of sanding was also needed to get the forward frame piece to fit into it properly.

Following the numbering sequence of the parts, the canopy should be next, and I did start work on it. But I decided to check the written instructions to see if there were any potential pitfalls I should be wary of, and there I noted that the designer recommends leaving the canopy till later, which I agree is sound advice. So that was set aside for the present, and work commenced on the wings.

    Dear all,
after long time spent in my home country, I back home and I am again here for posting a WIP about a new Airfix kit, i.e. their recent Bristol Bulldog in 1:48 scale. The subject is a classic British biplane which was produced and flew during the inter-war period.
This is a little kit which is quite known by now and this is its box with its rather nice box art:

You might find reviews on the web concluding that this is a nice kit and indeed the level of surface details is very nice:

However, in my opinion, one drawback is the quality of the plastic which is a bit rubber-like, hence difficult to cut and sand cleanly. I started with the cockpit which renders the internal truss structure and few other details rather nicely. I replaced the seat with an Eduard resin, not because the one of the kit is not good, but because I wanted to buy their p.e. harness which came with a resin seat.

The cockpit assembly had to be painted black and once included in the closed fuselage, very little can be seen from the cockpit opening. I also painted the inner sidewalls of the fuselage with two colors to represent the metallic panels and the fabric covered part:

I replaced the instrument panel of the kit with a Yahu one which is quite nice:

Finally, the complete assembled cockpit is placed inside the fuselage. From the dimension of my fingers you can see that this is really a tiny model:

Once the fuselage was closed, the distinctive fairings of the cylinder heads were also glued on.

Several points on the junctions had to be addressed on the upper and on the lower side. As said, the plastic gets crazed when sliced or sanded and this makes for me difficult to judge when a seam is finally ok. Several applications of Mr. Surfacer were necessary to fill small gaps.

I also separated the elevators from the tailplanes before gluing them on the fuselage. The trailing edge of the wings are too thick for this scale and some extending sanding is necessary.

Finally, the lower wing is sanded and glued in place. Now everything is ready for a preliminary coat of Mr. Surfacer 1500 that will allow to check the work done so far.

The result is not bad, with only few blemishes requiring further work. I am going also to wet sand everything with a very fine grit to insure a smooth surface in view of the silver finish.

    That's all for now,
    best regards,
    Dan
