NMBROOK reacted to Ponto in Le Renommee by Ponto - EuroModel - Scale 1:70
I'm off and running with my first Euromodel kit, Le Renommee after a marathon WVH build. I hope I can keep pace with the increasingly beautiful and detailed  logs submitted by such talented builders found on this forum.

The kit was expensive by my standards, but what isn't these days...and I've been impressed and dismayed by the kit contents in these early stages. Eighteen sheets of detailed plans accompany the kit but a comparison of the plans with supplied bulkheads and decks reveal some inconsistencies. Blocks and gratings are, however, the best I've encountered in any kit. I will work with what is supplied, and tweak and bash as I progress. I've learned and continue to learn through this forum and hope I can contribute in some small way....thanks for looking in.

    Hi friends,
many thanks for the comments and Likes.

Unfortunately, a picture with three model segments of the BHR is not possible together.
Every model segment is for itself in a seperate glass cabinet / protective bonnet and
    stand on different places.
Here, however, some pictures of my private ship model -museum.

Oh My - thanks for all of those such kind and supportive comments as well as the likes-very nice, and much indeed appreciated.

Frank M, I will now move onto the weather deck and rebuild all the knightheads and add pulleys, clean up the 14 cannon carriage ropes, build the last two poop deck cannon carriages. Then onto the masts (:-) I think?

    Cheers,

OK Folks I got a little bit more done today..

The Chimney is now fixed in place, and I made up some eyelets/rings for around the Masts (they have been chemically blackened)

Not much of an update I know.. but sure it keeps the ball rollin'

BTW the Mast 'Coats' (or wedges wotever) are only dry fitted as I haven't made up my mind whether to put 'canvas' on them or not.

Hello shipmates, a little extra work, not part of the instructions regarding the stanchions and handrails. I used walnut strips 2mm X 2mm to simulate wooden stanchions that I saw in other build logs of the Vespucci.

    Kind Regards

NMBROOK reacted to rafine in Frigate Essex by Rafine - FINISHED - Model Shipways - Kitbashed
The end of this journey is now in sight, although not yet just around the corner.

I decided to do the topgallant and royal yards on both the main and mizzen masts at the same time. I made this choice because of the criss-crossing of braces between them and the tightness of the space. I think it was a good choice. Work in this area has not been completed because I ran out of some rigging line and blocks and am awaiting my next delivery from Chuck (they come quickly). In my haphazard way of planning, I consistently and continually underestimate my needs for line and blocks and have to order more. In any event, this seemed a good time for an update showing current progress.

Upon arrival of my delivery, I will complete work on the rigging of these yards and then move on to the topsail and lower yards, as well as the boom and gaff.

It's taken me a bit, but I've now finished the yards and rigging of the fore mast. Aging eyes and hands, combined with small scale, have made this a slow and difficult task.

After my last update, in which I had finished the lower yard and started the topsail yard, I completed that yard and mounted them both on the pins in the mast. The only item of note on the topsail yard is the parrel, which I made up from pear strip, shaped and drilled, and small beads.

The rigging then proceeded through the jeers, slings, trusses, parrel, lifts, clews, sheets, tyes, halliards and braces, and ended with the lower clew garnets, sheets and tacks. The lines were tied off to various timber heads, pins, rails and bitts and rope coils were added.

Now I get to repeat this process on the main and mizzen.

    Bob

Hi Jim.. Thanks Mate (haven't seen you for a while now.. hope Snake is going well !) here's another photo of the stern    !

This photo was taken through my Magnifying Lamp Thingy (Brilliantly useful bit-o-kit by the way.. €35 in Lidl.. I bought 2 !)

The edges distort in the most amazing way when you photograph through it.. kinda cool effect, but suffice to say Ballahoos stern doesn't look this bad     (the waterline is straight for instance.. Honest..    )

Anyhoo it was the only way I could get a shot of the Chains etc.

    At Long Last A Photo...

As I mentioned previously there was loads of small (unworthy of individual photos I felt) work going on aboard Ballahoo for the last few weeks so I thought I'd best photograph something least ye all think I've abandoned the Build and taken up Crochet or something !!

Anyhoo... Here's an update of what's being going on:

-I made my own 'beefier' Tiller Arm as the original kit supplied one was only meant to be 'stuck' onto the front of the Rudder and I wanted it to go through the rudder as per the real world with a 'wedge' the the back to hold it in place and reinforcing pieces on the rudder above and below it.. you can see my version in the accompanying photo, some more work will be needed on it though! btw the bit of tiller arm sticking out at the back will be trimmed to size, possibly thickened up before putting the securing wedge through it.

-The 'Spectacle Plate' (or whatever it is called) is in place on the Rudder, you can just make it out in the photo slightly above the 'waterline'.. had a 'Moment' there cos I managed to stick it onto the wrong side of the rudder, but I spotted it after a few seconds.. There wasn't any cursing or profanity or anything over it.. Honest !! Cough Cough..

-I made up a couple of different sized Rings that will be needed for example to attach the Chains to the Rudder Spectacle DooDah and for use on various other Deck/Gun Eyes etc.. I chemically Blackened them

-Found a length of Chain which I also Blackened.. I feels the right size for Rudder Chains so I'll cut it to length shortly and fit them.

-I sized the 2 Gaffs and the Boom also.

In the Photo you'll see the Chimney and the 2 Mast Rings which may or may not be covered by a 'Mast Coat' later.. Oh and I made up a bunch of Mast Hoops also 8 or 9 per Mast (not in photo)

As you can see I've finished redoing the Waterline and installing the Gudgeons & Pintles so I'll be moving onto the various Deck Furniture next.. All of which is assembled and waiting to be put in place..

Ok then enough Writing.. It's Almost Photo Time.. Exciting Stuff eh?

All The Best Folks and Thanks For Stopping By.

NMBROOK got a reaction from LFrankCPA in Ebony - Finishing Question - retitled by Moderator
    Hi Larry
You can apply whatever finish you are using on the rest of the build,be it oil,wax or poly.Just make sure you give it a light wipe with acetone before application.I have found though that in practice, for Ebony wales for example, they have been sanded and wiped so many times during construction that hardly any residual oils from the timber remain on the surface.
