NMBROOK reacted to fmodajr in Wasa by fmodajr - FINISHED - Corel - 1:75
Adding the False Deck
Finishing the first layer of planking
For the second layer of planking I selected and cut some darker Walnut wood for contrast on the wales.
I soaked the planks in a 50/50 mix of ammonia and water, then bent the planks and glued after drying.

Finish planking of lower hull using mahogany strips
I veneered the keel with lighter mahogany wood and then I sanded and coated the entire Hull with a satin sanding sealer
Framed the gun ports and added the partial carriages
Overlap the upper planks near the stern

Keith: Yeah it is pretty low light in the museum and they have climate controle. Here is info from the museum page:

Vasa is slowly dying and they are building a construction to make her stronger and make her life longer.
Nigel, I just have to try and see if I can make the thingie. Ill start right away.

NMBROOK reacted to Ganymede in Caulking.
Greetings Nigel,
Thanks for the reply. Given that the hull planks were caulked why then is there so little visual evidence in the many models we see here? It is no more difficult than the deck is it?
Asking questions is my means of filling in time, and acquiring a little knowledge, until I get my, first, model kit. Hopefully in the next week or so.
I'll probably be asking a lot in the near future.
Again thanks
Patrick.

Those pictures certainly make it obvious as to it's identity Matti .Looking at the pics,so much of the blue is actual structure and not carving.I personally think it looks like some sort of blue and gold mutant Catfish having a bad day.In the absence of historical evidence,I shall still view it as the 'blue thingy'.You do have something to work to though to replicate it.

Brilliant work and pictures Matti
I do agree with your observations regarding the 1/10 model.I think these have been standardized/simplified to enable them to be cast from the same mould.

Hello dear friends!
I am very impressed reading your feedback, thank you very much for your appreciation and kind words.
I am also pleased and honoured that my work attracted other women - your wives. I like ship modeling, but there are only few women in our country, who also enjoy this hobby.
Please convey my cordial greetings to your wives.
And now what´s new on RC
The main cabin is almost finished; chairs, table and other furniture and decorative items are already in place, I improved baroque clock and now preparing a final decoration ....
From the process:
Please enjoy the pics, after finishing the interior I will take a lot of new photos and put them here.

I have gone to making and using a single piece mold and eliminated the seam and vents. Works very well for casting resin or pewter. I will try to post details and pics tonight

NMBROOK reacted to Beef Wellington in HMS Snake by Beef Wellington - FINISHED - Caldercraft - Scale 1: 64 - First wooden ship build
A few pictures to show the completed deck items before the masts go in. Definitely seems to be a little more crowed than kit supplied parts and layout but I'm pleased with how its turned out.

Doug, John, BE, Jim, Robert, Sjors - Thanks a bunch for kind words. Getting a lot of loose ends done and seems randomly capturing in my log. I've suddenly started having issues imbedding pictures in my posts, not sure if its some site incompatibility itself or my PC.
Robert - your pictures are below. As I've said before I don't want to bore people but please let me know if you want to see more! The base is home made any still not finished but this was a good opportunity to see how it looks with the ship.
Completed the blocks on the tops, as I've mentioned previously the instructions only call for single blocks on the fore top. However, even though I probably will not rig any buntlines, I did want this to be as authentic as possible. Research didn't seem to provide anything specific but in general it seems that a couple of double blocks on each 'corner' was somewhat typical so this is what I went with. Followed same method outlined earlier, these seemed to take forever to make, there were certainly rejects and structural failures during installation, as well as having to fill holes that I'd previously drilled. Luckily these proved to be not too noticeable.

NMBROOK got a reaction from KevinR in CA glue extender tips question
Hi cdogg
I assume you mean the Zap extenders.I use these all the time and have found that they only fit properly on Zap bottles. When I get a new bottle of glue I fit one straight away and discard the top.It is vital that the extender goes all the way down to the little collar or it will pop off. They are extremely tight which is why its not a good idea to try and fit one to a part used bottle with a scruffy top.The glue never goes off as the tip seals right at the end with remaining glue.I simple cut 2mm off the end to remove the dried glue. When the tip gets too short as you get down the widening part I replace the tip.
Kind Regards Nigel

So the museum exercised a little artistic freedom also? It does seem that it would be an extremely time consuming project to identify every single spot of paint on all the figures & decorations.By the way - 5 inches of snow on the ground here. I hate snow!
