Not much progress since my last post, the rails are still not finished but I did make a new (correctly sized) plug for the ships boats. I pulled one hull of the plug but there were some oil canning issues so I made some modifications to the plug to fix these on later hulls. Now for the real reason I am posting today, I think the I am finally ready to purchase the three remaining servos and want to make sure that my current servo layout good before I commit. I am planning on getting two Hitec HS 815 servos (one for the rudder and one for the fore sail/jibs) then one Hitec HS 785 fore the square sails.

I have made some progress on the railing and got the port side hammock cranes installed with some temporary netting in place.

I have made the fairleads for the squares and currently have the dry fitted so that I could test the sail rotation. I made two fairleads instead of the before mentioned four to prevent a possible problem below deck, the braces will now split above deck with the split disguised as a block.

I have mounted the square servo to the tray and figured out where to run the four trough deck fairleads for the square sails. I also made the arm for the rudder servo.

I finally decided on a time period and profession for my Byzantium. It will be an American privateer circa. 1795-1812. I have made some temporary (paper) 15 star american flags as well as a wishbone style martingale boom.
Abought the servos, I have been staring at the model with the deck off for hours at a time the past couple of days and know what I want to do but not the specifics like where the fairleads should come up trough the deck to line up with the pin rails and how to make a 3 inch arm for the rudder servo and how long the arms for the fore sail/jib sheets should be. I guess its safe to say that many more hours of staring at the model are needed.

The servos arrived today, apparently because I live so far from civilization it takes 4 days for the mail truck to get from the Adelanto post office to my mailbox . I looked up my TX/RX system and it has halved in price since I purchased it several years ago.

Nils sorry I missed answering your question.  I have almost made up my mind to leave the cutter as a free sailing boat.

Set the sails and rudder and let her go.
    Bob you nailed it.

Today was still cold it did get up to 5 degrees and the sun was shining for a bit this afternoon.

the new support cradle is refining up nicely, I made some 3/4 inch bolts with square nuts to begin assembling the structure the thread size is 3x48 the nuts were made by milling up a strip of 1/16 brass to .156 or 5/32 wide, then drilling a series of holes  tapping them and then cutting then off the strip with a jewelers saw. doing a final clean up with a file.

The first picture shows the more simple configuration with opposing verticals rather than pairs on both sides. the bottom timber is clear fir and 8 1/2 wide by 10 inches high the uprights are pine and are 6 inches x 2 inches these are full dimensions. there will be a further timber partnered next to the upright 6 x 2 closest to the camera this will have the swiveling pad that will be adjusted to fit up against the hull.

The second shows the bolts and the position at the stern

Thank you all for your wonderful encouraging comments, and for the likes.

Since it was cold and snowing most of the day I started tidying up the shop I started at the pilot cutter bench which had been used for a while as a wide shelf while the cutter was on the launch trolley.

I cleaned and used some past floor wax on the bench then polished it up. After putting the cutter back up on the bench I decided I needed to make a different stand. so made a start on it.

It is more like a cradle that might be constructed in a yard than a fancy stand, I think it will be more effective and more solid, there will be some adjustable pads to seat against the hull. The stern cradle parts are the first ones, depending on the weather I might have a full day at the yard tomorrow

It was nice to get her up on the bench again.

I took some pictures of the keel and boat. Note: the modifications to the plug to prevent oilcanning are only halfway complete in the picture, I have since finished the modifications.

I was wandering why my servos haven't arrived yet so I checked the tracking information and found that they arrived at my local post office where processed and sent out for delivery on Saturday but were never delivered and I didn't get a notice requesting me to pick it up at the post office. I will check the post office today, hopefully they have them there.

here is my attempt which I have now added to my Bounty..

I found a couple of odd shaped glass beads from a broken necklace, a bit of string and a couple of wire loops-- and OK so not strictly accurate but looks good 'in my opinion '

Here are some photos of my anchor area.  Have the other side and the sheet anchors to do yet.  Also, I did find a couple of ship boat sites,  I will also try the ones you have mentioned.
Any way here is my first attempt.

slow progress because of work committments. Hull is complete. Next job is to install rudder and some accommodation in stern. Where should the galley be positioned? Dick

And since back I did do some actual work on my model. Here are some pictures of the brick work on muddle deck. Used different color of red woods for the brick which are 4.5 by 2 by 1 mm. Glued them on a piece of black bristle board with a bit of gap between them then I filled the gap with white balsa filler. I am quite happy with the results.

Yes, though there's normally a sort of socket on the channel (I originally said deck, I meant channel) where the davit is seated when in use.  Photos of US ships often show an iron davit that looks like a boat davit near either cat head, and some vessels have something of a cargo boom sort of set-up at the forward base of the foremast, that just stows up against the mast.

PS: Lee's says there sometimes a socket or shoe at the billboard to allow the davit to be used there.

I'm still trying to find any reference to it in American seamanship works of the period, like Luce's Seamanship, with no luck so far.

As I have been working on the anchors and buoys, I have been reading up about the fish davits.  Not many photos of ships using them.  Is it safe to say the are only used to drop, lift and stow the anchors and are otherwise stowed away themselves?  As I am rigging the anchors in a stowed position, do I really need to make them?

Made a mistake about Victory's lower gun deck battery.  She has 32 pounder long guns, not 24's.  Even so the height difference is only 1-1/2".
