donrobinson got a reaction from SighingDutchman in Brush painting hull ??
I brush acrylic paint all the time and have never sprayed. I use the cheapest of cheap paints and get excellent results. The secret is to thin the paint, almost 50/50 and to apply several coats. The picture is showing my galley hull which has at least 8-9 coats. Also be sure to have all surfaces sanded very smooth, I seal the surfaces first using wipe on poly then sand smooth again before applying paint.  Occasionally I will sand lightly between coats of paint if required. It is best to paint the entire hull, at least one side, and try to keep a wet edge at all times. Thin Thin coats is the main thing to remember, and to be patient.

The day has finally arrived, my Trabakul is complete!! Thanks to all for following along, for all the likes and the great comments it was all very much appreciated. I would also like to thank Zoran at MarisStella for all his support and help and of course for producing this fantastic kit. Although, not an easy build, I would recommend this kit not only for the challenges you will face but also for the high quality of material and contents. So anyway here she is:
That's it and I really hope everyone enjoyed and I hope to see you over at my Stefano build

Nice work B.E. I like your method for the spiling I have done something similar but using a compass to trace outline, I'll defiantly try this method.

Well here she is all done, this was a fun little kit to build and I hope the grandson enjoys it even though it isn't much of a toy to play with. I am thinking I am going to put it on a base, for added security.
One down and one more to go for Santa, now to finish the carriage.

Hey all, just to put a finish to this project I will show the final product and save you the boredom of the entire build. Any questions please ask and I do apologise for the delay.

David, I was so busy talking about myself I forgot to mention your build. It is looking great! Your ship's boat looks very nice, job well done. I have made a ships boat using MarisStella's method before, shaping the plug was not a problem for me but cleaning out the interior was a bit of a challenge. This time I plan on giving the plug some heavy coats of varathane then wrapped in plastic wrap to help with the removal of the plug.

Hello David, I am glad to hear you and Zoran have been communicating with each other he really is a nice guy and always there to help. I am surprised he still talks to me as I am constantly asking questions and certainly must be a real pain at times.
I just received my kit yesterday, it does have the 3D parts. I have not gone through the box very well as of yet but are the wooden pieces for the transom laser cut or something that needs to be scratch built?
I will not be starting my Ontario for a week or two as I am the final stages of the Lady Nelson which I want to complete first. I'll be watching here closely for all your updates though.
    Have a Good Day

Good to see you got an answer David. I hate it when you ask a question and it ends up the answer is right in front of you! LOL The question about the stays, are the second stays that you mention  not called the preventer stays?  Which were quite common on ships of that era. I believe most ships had these, at least the English ones. Lennarth Petersson shows these in his book.
