Thanks to everyone for stooping in, for your likes and of course all the great comments even You(Mike Shanks). Today is going to be a beautiful day outside so this is just going to be a quick update before I head out side to work up a thirst. Actually it is so nice I'm thirsty already!! So lets get this going
First up is just another way of stropping/seizing a block with a becket, here I am using the Domanoff serving machine.
As this was just for demonstration purposes I will make another one with a 7mm triple that I can actually use
This is the mizzen mast with various rigging, not yet permanently attached
This the fore mast
One of the trestle trees, notice how my nails turned brown in the blackening solution. Only me and my crazy luck
I apologise for the poor picture but I was just trying to show my plumb bob for truing the masts and the proper use of a can of mushrooms, magnet and square
Here are some outside shots showing the masts stepped. Top mast is not on permanent. Checkout the rope at the bottom of the mast, I'm not sure if this is something exclusive to the Trabaccolo but it is kind of cool. I should have taken pictures of this process but it is three separate coils of 1.25 mm rope followed by two more on top of that then one more at the very top
As you can see it is beautiful day here so I am going for a shower then grabbing a cool one getting on the golf cart with some tunes and get to work watching the leaves grow. Fridge is full so come on over, supposed to be 28 today that spells cold beer in Celsius or Fahrenheit
You all have a great day and an awesome weekend
See You Later

I just noticed there are no pictures of the rubbing strake installed so here are some pictures, the painting has just begun with four coats of grey so far and three coats of the blueish black.
The paint is just cheap acrylic paint from Michaels, the grey is steel grey and the blue/black is a mixture of midnight blue and black. These are the brushes I used, also from Michaels. I didn't bother to mask as I am not very good at that so there are a couple of little touch ups to be done. The grey still needs a couple of coats and the blue will probably need another 4 or 5 coats

Good morning all, it's been some time now and I don't really have much to show for it. I'm really not sure how my time has been used as of late but production is very slow in the shipyard, hopefully this will change as the weather cools off.
Since last time I have finished the planking, added the scupper plank upper wale and the rubbing strake
Here I have marked and measured the scupper openings then cut them out using a 2 mm bit on my mill. As you can see I just made up a little table for the mill added a fence then just cut the openings free hand. This is so much easier cutting in the scuppers off the ship, good design by MarisStella
Clamping and the end result
Shaping the top .
]
Building up the bow
Here the bow is being shaped and the final planks for the upper wale installed. It was at this point I ran into a little snag.....the upper wale plank was supposed to be .5 mm thick and I installed 1.5 mm thick pieces . I was thankful that I used not only ca but also weldbond to glue these pieces on so no one method would get the pieces off without major damage . Next option was to sand off 1mm of the strake so, when I finally found my happy face, the sanding begun using a dremel. I suppose I was smiling so much I could not see that I sanded right through it in one spot thus requiring me to glue another piece on in this spot and do some more sanding......by hand.
The good part of all of this is I live in the country with no neighbours close by to hear my "sounds of joy" and my dog has finally returned home. The pictures show the plank before sanding
Next step is painting the rubbing strake and upper wale and the space in between them(not sure of the name for this area) I have begun this I will have some updates hopefully soon.
Take Care and Thanks for stopping by

The parts for the propeller. Important to glue them in the correct order and correct according to the other pieces. It would be difficult to scratch build if I mess this up
Engine. Assembled and primed black. I always use Games Workshop black primer. Very good primer. Gives a thin smooth layer to which paint adheres very well. It is expensive compared to other black primers but I would not use anything else. I especially like that it dries "very thin". Some primes coat details and "smothers" small details, this primer does not. Of course you still have to apply it correctly but doing that it will give excellent coverage and showing details.
Now I will start painting the details. I will also, dry brush and wash the engine to make it look much more realistic.

All the subassemblies so far! I have gotten to the moment when I realize "this one is going to get finished!". Even though it is still quite a lot of work there is no doubt it will get finished. Some time as I work on parts and put them away when it is finished and start on the next subassembly it can feel a bit hopeless. But when I put all the subassemblies together... I get the feeling that all I need to do is glue them together and it will be finished, it is a very nice feeling. I start to see a light at the end of the tunnel and it is not the headlamp of a train it is sunshine

A note: Amazon has the "Fokker Dr.I: The Aces’ Aircraft (Legends of Aviation 3D)", 2nd edition hardcover, listed as in stock for about $30 today! I just ordered one

Yeah wow, order it while you can if you have any intention of ever building a Dr.I model. The book has 70 or so pages of nothing but various angles of a very highly detailed and mostly correct Fokker Dr. I 3d model and leaves almost nothing to doubt.

Does he live in Sweden? Cause I also have a friend who did that... My friend glued the pieces wrong (right) broke them lose. Had to scratch built new pieces and glued them in place, incorrectly again... But being stubborn made yet another pair of landing gear struts and added them correctly but the left piece where the right should have been and vice versa... After that the model (I mean his model) went into the closet until the local exorcist can cleanse it... My friend finished by saying, "and we shall never speak of it again"...
