Well I did start on the main deckhouse but then I got sidetracked by the butterfly vents.  There are two that mount between the two upper deckhouses.  I took a page from Kees de mol’s modeling book and decided to make them out of Evergreen styrene.  This is a first in working in plastic since I was a teenager.  It’s nice to know I now have a different material to work with.  Don't wory about the top on the small vent, it's not glued yet.

Thanks for all the "likes" and comments.

I edited my previous post, seems I mixed up "port" and "starboard"....

I'm on hold waiting for glazing to dry.  The last window on the port side hit the floor without my knowing it and my foot found it.   I made extras but didn't glaze them.  Well... I am now.  At least I'm not sorting out fitting things, just matching the other side.

Yes, Mike, those are all one piece windows as are the stern windows.   The dimensions are listed here:  http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/5339-licorne-by-mtaylor-pof-316-french-frigate-hahn-version-20/?p=412930 for the gallery windows.

There's a picture at the bottom of this post.  One frame is not cleaned up and the other is.  There's a quarter included for scale.   (The quarter is approximately 7/8" or 22 mm in diameter).

    Carvings are coming...

While I'm at it... I wanted a couple of times to PM you.. but it says you can't receive messages.

Thanks Pat.  You're spot on about confidence and losing the fear of doing something with little to know knowledge.

Very good reason not to be in workshop tonight

In the frame of Europian "long night museum", tonight was 13th Belgrade's Museum night on 70 locations spreaded in downtown. I never missed this event, wonderfull ambience and feeling on streets, that evening full of very nice people, and with many interesting places and things to see. Six hours of walking and visiting Kalemegdan (Belgrade fortres), museums and exibitions. There is no way to see it all, so I created my own route, with resting places in Belgrafe's pubs or between ice-cream shops ( huh ... Blak chocolate with Rochero ferrer ice cream, nuts over ...)

Found something interesting in Millitary museum to show here, from XIX century, unknow war ship drown in Danube

It's mostly just fiddly work in Corel Draw.  No programming as such, David.  Which makes me very happy.

Well, all has not been quiet here in the shipyard.  making progress.  On the down side, it is slow, slightly maddening work to translate a 2D drawing into a 3D part....  Luckily, when the first side is done, the second side should go a lot faster.

I've got two of the three windows glazed and in place.  The third is currently somewhere in the workshop with the glazing drying (I'm using liquid glaze).  I've probably cut and re-worked, and re-cut 20 or wo windows to get to this point and I find them very fiddly indeed.

I've started working on the gallery roof(s) and drop(s) for both sides but have nothing to show in photos yet.

So here's the two windows in place.  Feel free to speak up if something is awry while I can still get access to the part.

The slight (ahem) misfit at the bottom of the taffrail where the lower molding meets will be hidden by carvings.  I've started those also....

    You're getting there.

I will throw out a bit of hard love though - in the stern view pic, it looks like the 3rd string(s) up are not symetrical where they meet the sternpost. At the bow the bands get pretty narrow. You may likely end up having to make some drop planks. If you don't know what those are do a little research. There's nothing wrong with that. But you might want to get ready for it.

I don't know what the scale of your build is, but have you calculated to determine if your proposed plank width is to scale? For instance, my build is 1:64 or approx 3/16" = 1'.  Planks for a brig at that time varied from about 6" to 12" or 3/32" to 3/16" wide in my scale. My plans called for mostly 5/32" which would have been about 10". That may be a little too wide for your type of boat.

Also consider whether your boat had a garboard - I would assume yes.  Those are typically wider than most other planks on your hull. They can also have a dramatic effect on how the rest of the planks lay, particularly at the bow. Installation of a garboard usually requires a rabbet be cut into the keel.

If you need more details on general planking for models - try this. Go to the Model Expo site. Go to web pages for several Model Shipways kits. You can download the instruction PDF's for free. Pride of Baltimore may help. Also Niagara wasn't that bad. I realize these are nothing like your boat, but a lot of the construction concepts are the same.

I don't want to sound like I am preaching at you - just trying to help someone who has helped me.

Hi Popeye & all interested too

I will not need all the frames in the mid section, it`s just straight. At the stern will be more frames, every second from the plan will be placed there. The space between frames 2 to 5 is really close, so I will replace frames 3 to 1 with a full piece of wood and grind that to shape. The last frames are done, today I can start with re-examine them all, and then fit the whole things together. More will come later today................

Thank you all for your visite and likes!

    Hey Joe............
Indeed, and there will be a lot more of them in different looks. When it comes to the rear end there will be the waterway, the narrowing to the stern and the location for the wheel, all that things need different shapes of the frames inside and outside silhouette.

    Hi Elijah

    Thank you!
Patience is what is most needed for such a big project. Somtimes the frames makning can be really boring, but there is no way to avoid that.

Today I made some more of the frames, but no pics from them. It would only be just the same as the last photos. More interesting things will come, when I go to the building board, to set all that things to the keels, this will be a nerve wrecking stage for me...........

Thank you all for your visite and that many likes!

There are a lot more still to make, but the first 31 are done.

Hi again to all my visitors, and thank you for your nice likes!
Today I made the next frames, including the first frames for the boilers. They are a little different to the "normal" frames, and need more work and pieces per part.
