Welcome back my friends Today I started on the main or first deck First thing I did was to coat the actual sides of the 5 mm strips of wood with a sharpie or permanent marker This simulates the tar sealant to make the decks water tight I measured each strip into 10cm sections Next I measured out on the deck 5cm sections along the length of the deck laying down the central strip I alternated the slats so they were offset by 5 cm here is how she is looking

Welcome After taking a week off for birthday and family in visiting I have progressed a little on this fine example of true Americana After placing the bulkheads and gluing them in place the bottom of the boat fit fairly nicely on Then I soaked the side panels of the hull in water for about 30 minutes and then pinned them into place I was actually surprised that there was very little sanding to be done After about 24 hours I was able to remove the pins and they held their shape making the glueing process very easy After letting the sides dry for a few hours I did a little sanding and attacked the first deck I couldn't find my claps since the move so I weighed down the middle with some heavy paint cans Seemed to work So here she sits at the moment

Keith Simmons reacted to robnbill in Brig Eagle by robnbill - 1:48
I have completed rigging the guns. I purposefully made the various coils inconsistent and a bit sloppy. Much of the crew of the Eagle had very limited ship experience. Since the guns are run out, the lanyards should not be neatly bound up, or in flemish coils. So this is what I ended up with. These would also have been unhooked before firing (I think) but having them laying on the deck really would have looked terrible. I will still play with the shape of the breeching lines, but this is close.
Now it is on to the masting. I just received my new rotary table for the Milling machine. I should be able to mill the masts in a horizontal position. However these are still in the box, so I will need to play with them a bit.

Hi Michael,
I used to be a piece working carpenter, and guess I never lost the hurry up and finish attitude, but I'm trying...lol

Thanks Patrick,
I flip flopped on the color, but beginning to like it myself. I sure am learning some new skills on this project such as working in smaller scale, exciting, can't wait to dive into the ketch....
Cheers Mate

A bit more progress on the 90 sloop, cabins set and decking going in. Decided to follow through with the Walnut inlay in the deck, think it will work...
Found out that actually working on 2 hulls at once is harder than I thought. In this case it works out better since I won't make the same mistakes on the 150 ketch.....
Since I built one without a frame, I'm going to attempt a pegged timber frame for the ketch. You'd think I would just learn how to do a real hull construction, but I don't roll that way....
Thanks for looking in, Keith

Keith Simmons reacted to Cap'n Rat Fink in Black Prince by Cap'n Rat Fink - Mamoli - 1/57 scale - rebuild modified to Lady Katherine - Mario
At this point the hull has been painted. After masking the hull off. I painted the hull completely white. Once dried and done with the white color, i masked off the white and painted the portion of the hull that will be black. On the inside of the bulwarks I brush painted a portion black. The rest was left unpainted. I liked the look of the a portion of the sapaley painted and the rest bare. You will also see the finished painted cannons.
you will also notice how you can see the strake lines which i left on purpose for a more authentic look.
i really do not enjoy painting because i do not think i am very good at. plus when the paint is drying i must wait the alloted time for it to dry, which is something i do not much care for. i like modeling at my pace, but in this case the paint is in control of the pace.....
questions and remarks are very much welcomed....

Making some progress, finally starting to look like something. After all was said and done the floating frame removal did work. Not sure why that is such a big thing to me, but it was a challenge...lol
Just about ready to place Walnut cabins and run Maple decking. Here are some progress pics...
Thanks for looking in,
