heksanol got a reaction from Archi in Rigging yards with no sails - question
Hello
I have a question with regards to rigging yards when you don't include sails on the model. In Picture 1 it shows a rigging guide on a yard when a sail is used. However, how do you rig the blocks when no sail is included, as highlighted in Picture 2?
Thanks
Regards

Greetings
I have glued my model onto the wood base as seen below. Quite happy with how it came out.
Next is to glue the glass case over the model.

Good job so far!
From the pictures the frames looks good to me. Your overthinking this too much - go for it!

Hi GunterMT
Stupid question from my side, but what is the purpose of the rabbet strip to the model overall? Is it to add extra length to the false keel for when you add the bulk frames?

Finally finished the ratlines
I used a spacing of about 5 mm, don't know if that was too short, but took it to the top.
Also added the lines between the masts.
Busy at the moment with the rigging of the spars.

Haven't update in quite a while, but here goes.
Finished with the three masts, so it is ready for rigging.
Already finished the spar for the back mast.
Also finished the bowsprit and added it to the hull with other decoration - will post some photos later.
Busy preparing the other masts.

I decided to do 45 degree joining corners, bit more work, but the result looks better.

Thanks Paul, getting into the final stretch.

Finally got time to sand down the ribs as well as the stern part. Used a dremel for these task, and fine sandpaper to finish off.
Used a chisel to reduce the stern portion to about 2mm as required, and then used fine sandpaper to finish off.
Next step is planking.

Thanks guys, can't wait to see the ship in there.
Continuing on with the sails. The upper fore sail is installed and rigging mostly complete. Rope coils are starting to get crowded and there's more to add in.

The only part I don't like of rigging is block things to masts/spars etc.
Update time:
Added the masts to the hull of the ship.
Started with the shrouds for the mizzen-mast, which is now ready for the lanyards.

Inboard sanding is complete. Took several days- what a tight space at the bow! Cap rail turned out pretty well. Lots of sanding because I cut it way off scale at first. Had to do surgery on one small section. Have a bit more sanding to do.

Thanks all. I think my admiral is more excited than I about finally nearing completion. Been almost a year I've tinkered with this off and on now. Tonight I got all my cargo done and installed. I made a couple of wooden boxes to add to the mix.
I also finally got around to working on the chain plates. One side done.

was home sick today with a cold. I made use of the time to get all of my masts and booms cut and shaped. Chucked the dowels in my hand drill, and with some 80 grit in a gloved hand spun them down to the right taper. A lathe would have made things easier, but have one I do not. The hand drill and 80 grit worked fine. just need to remember to cut the dowel long at first so the chuck doesn't mar good mast.

Added the foresail on this weekend. When trying to snug up all the rigging I didn't like the way the sail was being pulled, so I inserted some straight thin brass wire into the bottom hem, that allowed me to form the shape and pull the rigging tight without deforming the sail too much.
