Jon, I admire your build. It happened to be that I am now also an owner of the USS Constitution. I inherited the ship from a gentlemen with the obligation to finish it. Since I do not want to dishonor the builder, I was thinking to start with a cross section. To get the hang of it, so to speak. Do you have by any chances a drawing from a cross section? Hermann

Here you can see the railing …. Although it is not a S-100 but I believe they didn’t change the railings.

I found a some nice pictures where they load mines … Just for your information, they could carry up to 6 EMC mines.

Hi Javlin, I just found your log. You built a nice model. But, if I may, it is historical not correct. The S-100 never had a 2cm Vierling and a 3.7 cm cannon on board, plus 6 mines. That would have been too heavy for the boat that size. They even wouldn’t have enough room for the service staff to accommodate them. A 2 cm Vierling needed 10 men, a 3,7 cm 3 men. I agree it is tempting to build it with all the weapons. Heck I even built one with a 2 cm Vierling, although I left the twin 2cm cannon in the waist location. The layouts below are out of “Die Deutschen Schnellboote 1914-1945” by Harald Fock. The layout with the Vierling has a 30 mm cannon in the bow. But that cannon didn’t see service, as far as I know. You might have this book already: S-Boote, German E-boats in action 1939-1945, by Jean-Philippe Dallies-Labourdette. With many good photos and in English. 😁

Back to the model. I did my first big mistake. I already noticed that the dimensions are kind off (post #13), but I didn’t double check because I read that you have to take the measurement from the planking. Stupid me! I made the lower keel too thin. 1/16” instead of 5/64” like stated in the parts list and elsewhere. So I have to redo the whole procedure. 😒 Well live and learn!

Best paint for wooden ship models
Hsae replied to Hsae's topic in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques
Thank you for all the comments. To me it looks like it is more personal preference what brand you are using, as long as the pigment / grain size is small enough. There are many paint brands out there. For instance, I never heard about Delta Ceramcoat acrylics. But having said that, I had at one time some paint mixed at Sherwin-Williams to match my Land-Rover’s (1/10) color and it sprayed very well. Disadvantage is, now I have 1/2 gal left overs. 😆 Hermann -

Bob thank you for your response. I do have shellac, there is no problem with that. But can I spray enamel over it? I guess I can use Acrylic, or? I better test it, before I screw up my model. Thanks, Hermann
