Amazing work! I assume you did that on your Proxxon CNC mill. Quite impressive! What wood do you use to mill such small items? Boxwood? Hermann

I always wanted to build this boat. I bought the hard copy To Build a Whaleboat by Eric Ronnberg 20 years ago. I found the kit by accident on eBay for a reasonable price. Inspired by the already existing excellent blogs in this forum I will give it a try. The box I received didn’t look so good and I was afraid that the wood was wrapped already, but to my surprise it was still good (so far as I know). There is one thing I do not like from the beginning, the drawings are on both sides, obviously to save paper. That makes it kind of annoying to look for certain things. I believe the older kits had it on separate sheets, or the newer version?

Keith, may I ask you from where you got the the mentioned retains straps ? Btw, outstanding model! Hermann

I am using for the Proxxon a “ring” LED (eBay) and for the drill press a magnifying LED ((AliExpress) which I can also use for the Proxxon. Both are giving sufficient light for detail work.

Last night I was working on the planking for the bridge. I had to do some modifications. Moved the “stairway” and cut the “windbreaker “

Yes, but you would probably always see it. I mixed so many colors that it is tough to match. Plus I cut already the frame to size. I am just debating if I use glass (heavy) or acrylic glass (easily scratched)

Thanks Yves, I Hope it will be a great diorama. I only wish I had made it a little bit longer … oh well!

Glad to see you back on your Bluebell, Kevin! Great work, Hermann PS: I hope you didn’t glue the wooden panels at the deck yet. You have to switch sides. 😉

No problem. I guess all the memories are coming back again. Thank you for sharing Kevin.

Thanks Kevin, appreciated! I will see if I can squeeze one officer and two lockouts on the bridge.

Wow, that’s quite interesting. I do have some questions for you, if you don’t mind. What kind of equipment have they extended typically when they are surfaced. Besides radar. And what color did they have? I don’t know if I got the “tiling” right, what do you think? And how many sailer where on the “bridge” typically?

It has been a while since I last posted something. My apologies! But that is the nice thing with this hobby, you can leave it for a while and start again later. Well, small progress. I weathered the hull and placed it into the “water”. I final finished the deck and installed the degaussing cables. I don’t know if they where around at the time (1943), but I thought it is a nice feature.

If I may ask, how did you square the holes so nicely. It looks like you did the main part with a router/mill and the rest with a chisel? Btw, beautiful work!

Yep, unfortunately they copied all the mistakes from the old matchbox kit. Except the stern. The Snowberry had a round stern. Otherwise it is an impressive build! Very neat to build it on a 3D printer! Hermann
