Onto the big guns. As they really are the thing to draw the eye on a model, there is a lot of detail required. If you compare the AOTS image to the kit provided gun, there is a lot of work to do.
As I got both upgrade kits, there is not a lot of overlap, and the Pontos stuff is nicer, but Flyhawk gives you resin periscopes, compared to using the blobs provided by Zvzeda. As such lot of reduction and sanding to do. The 12 pounders will all be replaced of course.
Pontos provides a full barrel and trunions, where as Flyhawk has plug in barrels. Pontos it is. Neither kit has enough 12 pounder barrels to meet the full complement, but with a combination I can get there.

I spent the last two days in the sunshine doing my other hobby - photographing planes, so this gave me a good break from the build kind of rested my eyes, I will be back on her today masking the hull top sides and deck to make sure no paint sprays onto that section, I will spray the bottom and part sides - upto the Boot line with the red I used before, then put her aside to dry thoroughly.
OC.

At home off work with man flu. Being productive, I cut the pulleys off the one piece etch and rigged with easy line. The pivot point on the boom is somewhere on the floor of my garage as it was dropped by some idiot whilst it was being painted, and I had to fabricate a new one from plastic card.
The search light platform and a smaller search light. I will need to add a small ladder when the crowsnest goes on.
And finally the sidelights which are referenced in the AOTS but ignored by everyone else.

All good, I have done the plates up, but I'll wait until I've done up the final guns, 5 big turrets, 17 twelve pounders. Photos soon, but lots of work, filing down, lots of etch and new barrels.

Maybe, but it popped up in different places at different times which makes me think it's the glue. No biggie.

The third deck was from Pontos, the first two were Artwox. Maybe it was just a bad batch.

I think you'll find that Trumpeter, who makes the Dreadnought, makes about 4 versions at different stages of its life, and they include the plate, that being said, I was trying to be wary of what it was like in 1907, as there are lots of alterations after 1907. There are so few photos as I imagine it was very expensive way back then, even paintings from that era don't show a boot strap.
It makes perfect sense to have plate as it would make a mess. I will try some brass strip and also some plastic strip was well otherwise it will bother the hell out of me until I get it right. If I can spend 2 days making chain I can make a strip!

I've completed 2 kits to date with no issues, my third's wooden deck did not like me at all.
