1 OZ. PRIMER - MODEL SHIPWAYS PAINT - HISTORIC MARINE COLORS - MS4839
Your Price: $4.99 -
I am planing to paint the cannons with black paint and highlight the various casting forms with lead . I made some thoughts of using the special blackening liquid from Birchwood... i did used that to blacken chain on other models and now on Hermione to make the shiny hinges of the rudder a little more dark. But the cannons seem to be made from zinc or some metal that want be easy to blacken chemical, for which also Birchwood offers no liquid (they have for brass, aluminium and silver from what I know).
Anyway why dont you use a.mat black paint I think thats the best we can do.

Thank you both, Dutchman and Phil426 for your kind comments.

Thank you guys.
Dilbert55: no tools needed the plates are very thin. Consider at some points you may use a good knife to cut in shape, but the feeling is as you were cutting paper.
S.Coleman: as you see in the picture the keel is covered with copper but not the falsekeel. I beleive thats because the falsekeel was supposed to be left easy to be replaced. Same goes for the rudder, there is also a bottom piece (an extension of the falsekeel, a stripe at the same thickneess as the falsekeel) that isnt coppered.

Thx guys..... I appricate it very much not only your kind words but also that you look at my work! Thank you both (Tallshiptragic and Jarman)
Paul isnt it going to get a patina with the time? Did you mean that make a patina brings a darker colour at the end than the.natural patina which bekommes by its self through the time?

Boys and girls,
Shipyard manager very happy... just coppered the one side of Hermione.
After finishing coppering followed the aceton remouving of the small glue stains. Finally a nice lemon juice cleaned all the finger tips. And then a light pass with a sponge which had just a little water humidity.

My friend your helping me all the time and I dont know how to respond in the same way. Anyway kens needles is a very good idea... do you think the needle doesnt get stucked all the time when the glue drys in it? If not, then thats great. Am going to give it a shot anyway.
Ps. As you said 14 oz for 10 euros I was thinking of asking you to send me some dozen of those! 😃😃 But then you got me down to earth... this is about similar to the amazon price.
-

Guys this what wikipedia says... about flying courtesy flags from Hermione.
"The frigate Hermione moored in New York in 2015, flying the Betsy Ross flag and the Serapis flag, two early US flags and ensigns."
-
Paul thank you very much. I dont think so. I am thinking when finished to clean it well from fingertips and glue and then let it take its patina by itself with time.
Though if I have problems with cleaning, then may be I ll use little brassblack to give it a darker colour.

Hi pipermat,
Am using contact cement.... I tryed a few ... its the best I think. To clean glue I tryed aceton and it works, it cleans ok.
Superglue CA its very bad to inhale .... it brings my asthma out, so I did not wanted to try it. I use it very rare when I need a superfast strong gluing.

Tom,
You have been very informative and helpfull... many thanks. I would appreciate it if you find a close up from the visit in Philadelphia. I was on board of Hermione last month but this rigging wasnt on.... and I forgot to ask.
Thank you again and all the best.

Chuck,
Thx for joining this conversation and offering your help. As you allready know we are talking about a french frigate 1769+. The replica of the ship travelling in our days has the french flag on the stern post and the visiting countrys flag on the driver gaff on the the peak of the gaff. But thats may not be what the French navy really did back in the late 18th century.
