garyshipwright got a reaction from John Murray in New 18"x10" table top for the Byrnes table saw.
Well its been Twenty years since I purchase my Byrnes table saw. Brought one of his earlier one, when he first came out with them. Been happy with it every since. Felt like a kid waiting on Santa to bring my toy and put it under the tree. Of course it never did make it under the tree. 🤪 I did get a email from Jim saying that he was about ready to start mailing them out and not long after that the real boss sent me one saying it might be a couple of weeks out, and she was right.  I got a email from Donna, who is a outstanding Lady, letting me know that it was going to be a few week's longer before Jim  finally got them ready to be shipped out. Well lets say the next couple of week's were a lot like setting on pin's and needle's , and finally a big box arrived at the house.  It is a heck of a machine and has been the best investment in to the hobby.  Any way I saw Jim's new table top back in 2017, believe that when I noticed it, but wasn't till now July 2022, that I took my saw table top off and sent it back to Jim to be replaced with the bigger table top and it's outstanding, well worth the money and will get many years of use. Wish I had done this back in 2017 but some times a couple of months turns in to year's.  Its a outstanding  table top and not sure what else I can say and if you have the saw you know what and how good that machine really is. In fact all their machines are great. It really brings a lot more to the table and with the extra length one can put the sliding table on with out having to remove the fence, cut what you need, remove the sliding table  and go back to using you fence.  Its very easy to remove and replace the fence when using the sliding table before, but even better when you don't have to. Guess you can call me just a little on the lazy side. Donna was telling me about what they did to improve the table top  finish's which I have found to look nice but item's seem to slide easier on it.  Donna  said I was going to love the new top and she was 100 percent right. Of course didn't have the heart to tell her that I have been in love with that saw since I got it, hum maybe I did.🙄   If you thinking about replacing the table top then do it and if you can afford the saw get the one that has the 18 x 10 table top. Guarantee you will be a very very happy camper I am that's for sure. Another thing about Jim and Donna, great  great customer care and other then making outstanding machine, they really know how to pack them for shipping.  Gary

Thanks for the kind words Mark. And also for all the likes.

Well I'm back from vacation and though it's cold and snowy out it's warm in the workshop.

I spent the afternoon running the baton strip to mark the bottom of the wales. I'll look them over
again tomorrow, after ugh work, with a fresh eye.

Next up I'll cut the pieces for the lower counter.

Here's where I am at right now. The stern frames have been completed and I started installing them.
First I placed the outer most frames , parts ST-C and ST-D, and then placed the stern framing plan
over them to confirm the correct width.

Following checks marks and using the spacers here is the assembled stern with some light sanding.

A lot more sanding is needed to clean it all up. Oh I've also finished the preliminary sanding of the port side port framing.

Time to ice down my shoulder.

The port framing has been completed on both sides. The starboard side has also received preliminary fairing.

After viewing these pictures I noticed the most aft frames lintel is not installed correctly. I'll rip it out tonight and reinstall it!

As I needed to give my shoulder a rest I spent yesterday cutting out the stern pieces.

All the pieces have been roughly sanded to shape and will receive a final sanding just prior to installing them on the model.

Hopefully I'll have the stern assembled by the end of next weekend. That is the family permitting.

After several days of sanding, numerous sheets of sand paper and sanding sticks later the hull is roughly faired.
I estimate I have 12-15 hours of sanding and more than a few Aleve tablets into the hull so far.
After the port framing is completed more fairing will be needed.

Here I've started to place the port framing. I would cut and fit several at a time and then leave them next to the former
until I glued them in place. This way I could make several at a time and then glue several in place.
This method helps me not mix them up and keep them in the correct order.
I'll work to the bow and then to the stern. No real reason why just the way I'm doing it.

Thanks shihawk. I know there are two camps on this. One is the same color above and below the wales and the other is using two different woods. I'm in favor of whatever you think looks good.

I took a look Ben and must say am impressed. You building board reminds me of the one on my 74 as far as the outside rail's. I didn't have them for the longest time and if I had them when I started her, would of come in real handy. Think it was 19 years ago, maybe a couple of year's after I finished Richard up which I believe it was 98. Probably spent the in between time to figure out what I wanted to build next.

Thanks JJ, working on the progress part as we speak. Was wonder what other's such as your self was using and what size's.  That's one of the thing's that I wish I did with Alfred's build board  and made the build table 4 to 5 inches longer. I purchased a Rockler T-Track table top, which is 28"x 40" and was wonder if the length would work.  Had it for awhile and couldn't figure out what to use it for untill now.  Been sitting on the work bench  so hopeful I won't have to go out and buy another build board. With the track's built in should be a big help with keeping it all squared up.  Also thanks for the welcome.

I have completed installation of the Ebony wales, black strake in Boxwood and the sheer cap in AYC.

The Two strakes below the wales and the rest of the lower planking will be made from white american Holly as you can see, I like the contrast against the super black of the ebony.

I now have to begin fairing the internal bulkheads down to the proper thickness and then start lining off the lower hull - It will be a while until the next update.

Thought I’d share a picture of the plank bending station that I made, very similar to Chucks with a few refinements of my own, it’s screwed onto the end of the build table of Winchelsea to keep everything close and together ready for when the time comes to add the two strakes below the Wales and when bottom planking really gets started.

Upper planking above the Wales in Boxwood has been completed, now to install the two strakes below the Wales and start machining the ebony I need for the 2nd layer of the Wales.

Its very timely and good to see your config.  I am slowly drafting the next project which is a fully framed Winnie cross section.   Its going to be a very nice subject.  It will have 20 frames.

Well here is my port side frame reveal completed, in the end it turned out to be 23 frames that i could fit between the bulkheads.
I did the treenails with 20lb black line and reversed the pattern aft of the deadflat frames.

I'm so happy with how this came out in the end that I'm considering building one on the starboard side as well but we shall see.

Port layout and upper/lower cill framing complete, no issues were encountered with this process, and I have begun installing the port sides.

Next up will be adding the stern framing and I’m also cooking up something special to add to this model which will change the original design somewhat but hopefully it will add to the whole.

Yep Chris, I have started the Rough fairing process before I start the port framing layout, you can see the flexible holly battern I use to check fairness as I go.

    Thanks David and Rusty,

I decided to make up both the AYC and my own Pear/Box knee of the head to look at the difference in color and grain appearance and I have decided to go ahead with my decision to make the framing in Pear.

Rudder has almost been completed and the bow-tie and horse shoe plates installed and the “fake” bolts attached.
I need to make and install a couple of eyebolts to the spectacle strap to finish it off.

I decided to go ahead and make the rudder trunk and seats as well as the two ladderways.
These are some really beautiful laser cut and etched parts that go together and look fantastic when finished.

Hi Richard. I have the dewalt scroll saw, and three table saws. A ten inch cabinet saw from grizzly, Jim saw with a new 18"x 10" table top and a Preac saw for cutting grating and other parts. My Jim saw get's a lot of use compared to the other two and really enjoy using it. I would recommend the dewalt scroll saw and the Jim saw. Can't do with out them that's for sure. Also have the sherline lathe and mill which the mill gets the most used between the two. Gary
