When I was over in the UK I bought some 'Blue Stuff'.  If you've never heard of it or used it check it out on YouTube.  Basically I bought it to replicate items such as the figurehead so I could practice on it as I've never done any close miniature painting before.  Anyway here are some photos showing what I did with it - melt the blue Thermo Plastic in boiling water; wrap it around the metal figurehead and let it set (about 10mins); take the figurehead out of the mould; mix some Milliput and push it into the mould; leave to set and remove the replica.  The beauty is that the Blue Stuff can be used over and over again - just melt it in boiling water - magic!

She's not the prettiest girl in the world but she's mine!  This stuff has many uses and I hope it gives you some ideas.

    Shipyard Update
    MainMast Fore Stays:

So just before I left for holidays, I'd made the Fore and Main TopMast Fore Stays(mouse + loops).

Today I ran the Main TopMast Fore Stays onto the Fore Mast blocks and with tackle fixed to the base of the Fore Mast.
Little sketch below I used to map out the runs and blocks, rope to use.

The run of the Fore Stays through the Foremast Blocks:

The Main Top Mast Fore Stay Tackle runs to the Starboard side of the Fore Mast:

The Main Top Mast Preventor Fore Stay Tackle runs to the Port side of the Fore Mast:

It took me a little while to work out where I was on the rigging.
Being away form the model desk for nearly 2 months, I needed to refresh the brain as to where the build was at.
Next I'll probably tackle the Fore TopMast Fore Stays.

A concern is avoiding the rigging of the driver boom fouling the lights. Exactly where the rigging is attached to the hull is far from clear. Actually installing the lights is about the last thing I will do as their attachments are very fragile indeed.   Protruding as they do is an invitation to disaster.  However to get an idea of the best place to attach the boom rigging I have dry-fitted the light supports - shown below.  This entails drilling holes in the decorative surface of the stern - something I was not keen to do.  However needs must ...  (With hindsight I would have drilled the holes before painting and off the model, but there your are.)

In the process however, I discovered that it is just possible to drill the appropriate holes without damage to the painted figures.  Obtaining the distance between the holes from the light supports, I used a pair of dividers to search places on the decorative surface where I could drill without damaging the figures. The only places are shown in the unfortunately rather unclear photos.

Hi Guys current progress is slow I'm afraid. I've set up and got to grips with my Airbrush and I was going to try it on a cheap Bluenose kit I have but then I thought better of it and decided to make all the small fiddly cleats and belays which has been fun.  I made some holders by soldering croc clips to brass wire.  I bought a large plastic box to house a turntable I've also made.  The Box contains the spray, which I have to say is much less than I expected and doubles up as storage for all the paint and paraphernalia.  I'm really pleased with it as the finish on the cleats etc is great.

Well I don't have much to show for the past month. The fore shrouds on the starboard side are complete. These are relatively easy to complete as only the bottom shrouds have ratlines, of which there is only 15 spaced at 15 mm or 19" in real life. Along with ratlines there are two pinrails and three stretcher rails(for lack of better terminology). Another surprise for all the non-lovers of ratlines is only one set of shrouds per side gets ratlines!!! So only the shrouds that are on the opposite side of the spars get ratlines. Gotta luv that.

Showing the different pieces for the shrouds.

Final picture is showing my set up for taking pictures, needs a white sheet hanging on the wall but I just can't bring myself to putting up a sheet on my dining room wall.
More updates hopefully sooner than this one was.

    Hi All,
Hope everyone has been well and made progress on their projects.
Well I made it back from Italy, great adventure and enjoyed it immensely.
Hope to get back to the Endeavour rigging shortly.
Just a bit of house keeping to do after being away.

More knots have been tied and more bits of wood added.

The wooden bits are the foremast which is now properly fixed as is the bowsprit which I needed in order to get the main stay and preventer rigged.

Here the main stay is looped around the masthead and the lower end is just looped inside the heart block at the bowsprit end and held by a clip.

Main stay and preventer now rigged.  At this point I was quite happy with the gap between both of these stays >>>
I wanted these stays in position as I wanted to do the snaking before even thinking about rigging the foremast shrouds ~  I didn't want to be messing with trying to do the snaking behind all those shrouds.

Here, in the pic below, the snaking is done but the stays are a little closer together that I would have liked.  There is no tension in the snaking -- I made efforts to ensure that I wasn't pulling the stays together but somehow they are a bit closer that I had hoped for >>>
I have to say that I'm pleased that I did the snaking as I found it quite tricky even in the "open space" I had to work in. I think it would have been much more of a nightmare if I had waited until the foremast shrouds were in place.

The crows foot of the main top has also been rigged. (The main top platform is now eventually a permanent part of the mast!)>>>

I have remade the hatchs as I am still waiting on my wood strips to arrive.

I think it looks a lot better than my first attempt at it.  The last hatch is drying and needs to be sanded.  Next, I will work on the knee (I think thats what it's called?). Making it from scratch  based upon what Dan posted earlier.  Not too much work done, but slowly making progress.

I hope the strips come in soon as I am ready to plank the middle deck.  Then I will feel like I'm finally making good progress.

As I'm going to be silent for a few weeks I thought I'd better get some work done!  So here is my latest series of Photos for the log.

I had some difficulty with the pins but they are all on.  I have painted the lower portion white I forgot to take a photo.

I put some dowls in the mast hole and laid out all the deck gear (dry) so when I come back in September that will be my job then.

The kit called for the brass etched background to be Black but John MacKays book shows red, so red it is.

Just started this work and it needs tidying up and I will add a second frame upright to the four frames as per Mr MacKay.

Hi All, I've been busy with what seems small but time consuming stuff.  The heat here at the moment hasn't helped as we've been up around 44C (111F) for a few days now.  Hopefully this is coming down this week but it doesn't make me want to sit over a work bench!!
I made the tiller house a little while ago as per the kit instructions I didn't feel that it was good enough so I clad it with Mahogany and stained it Dark Oak and I think that it looks better.

These first two are as per the kit

    Now after Cladding

Now after staining.  I'll give it a coat of Sanding Sealer before I glue it in place.

I've also made a start on the Rudder.
I need to tidy it up and fit the 'bolt' Heads and stain/paint as my next job.  I'm hoping to have it done and fitted before I go to England in a week or so.

Hi Everyone, been fairly busy over the last couple of days and completed (with a little bit of tidying up to do) the Wales and Bulwark Strakes.  The kit says to build up the strakes edge on edge, which is fine if the ship was going to be left as natural wood but as I'm painting it I decided to make it in one piece.  The Wales are also painted and I'd be interested in your opinions over the colour of the upper Wale as I've left it as natural wood colour and not matt black like the other two. Anyway here's the photo's.

Wales and painting coming along nicely.  Big thanks to Anton T who suggested I prime/undercoat first before painting on the colours.  It's made all the difference.

I think that I mentioned a little while ago that the gun carriages supplied by the kit were hopeless - not to scale and cheap and nasty.  So I decided to try and rescale from John McKays book and scratch build some, although they aren't perfect by any means I'm pretty happy with them.  The main issue for me is the gun colour.  I didn't think matt was right so I've used Smooth Hammerite.  When I get another kit I'll buy some brass tarnisher - notice I said when I get another kit!!  I'm loving this new hobby and it gets better and better.

I've made a little more progress this week.  Firstly I was unhappy with the design of Binnicle in the kit (left) so I made another one (right)
I've also been through the lengthy process of filling and sanding the hull and I've fitted the keel, bow stem and stern post.  I now need to pause to construct a secure building rig to keep her stable.  I've decided to paint her and having seen the excellent results Steve12345 has got on his Bounty I'm looking for a small air compressor for the paint job.

I'm really enjoying the build and so grateful for all the advice I'm getting.  Thanks to all.
    Cheers from sunny Antalya

I've now had a chance to compare the Contructo Drawings and John McKays book - they might as well be looking at two different ships!!  The binnacle I've made to their kit bears no resemblance to what it should be both in design and scale.  The top of the binnacle in McKays book comes up to the wheel boss in height (proportionately) yet the kit binnacle is above the height of the wheel!!  Also the cannons are not even close to the original 4pounders.  I'm now beginning to appreciate a lot of what is being said in the forum about using the kits as a basis for the build.  I think I can salvage the Binnacle but I've had to unfortunately dismantle the cannons, never mind it's a good learning curve.
I've done some investigation into the paint on the hull and it appeared to be a combination of Lime, Sulphur and Tallow, which to my understanding would give a cream yellow colour.  Does anyone have a view on this?
Currently continuing with the sanding and planking the stern.

I've just picked up a copy of John McKays books on the Bounty and the Victory and the detail is amazing. They are second hand with no colour photos but they will be invaluable. I can immediately see that the cannon I've made need a re think as the plans from Construto bear no resemblance to the book. Never mind it will teach me to do better research .

Hull planking almost complete.  Made a hash of the Bow on one side - didn't correct a mistake quick enough but I think it's retrievable.
Thanks to all the folks who check out my postings but I'm off to Blighty tonight so this will be the last post for a month but I will miss the old gal and look forward to sorting her out when I get back.

I'm progressing pretty well and I am now faced with the sanding/shaping job at the bow, keel and bulkheads.  I'm looking ahead to the deck planking and I am trying to find what the planking configuration was on the original ship.  The kit comes with lengths of planking long enough to do the job but I think this is a bit of a cop out.  I've read the Deck Planking tutorial and I'm looking to do 120mm planks with an 'every 5' configuration as I think it would look good.  However, does anyone know what the original configuration was or was there a common practice for ships of that era?  Here are some photos of where I'm at.
