Ondras71 reacted to Ab Hoving in Roter Löwe 1597 by Ondras71
Willem van de Velde (father) was born in 1611 and died in 1693. The son was born in 1633 and died in 1707.
Peter van de Velde was born in Flanders and lived from 1634 till 1723/4.

Ondras, you are moving at a fast and furious clip, without any sacrifice in quality. I love all the detail - particularly the scarfing of the stem - NICE! Thank you for bringing to my attention this Barent’s ship replica project. I will look that up - looks fascinating.
I’m not sure what to say about the pinrail issue on early 17th century vessels, other than perhaps Vasa is your best guide. When in doubt, personally, I like to fall back on the Van de Veldes for the clarity of their drawings.

Thanks for the like!
Created the basis of the balcony. Knee production combined with the production of knees under the aft deck..
I was milling my knees. I made a milling machine from a nail. According to the Russian style, which works..
The boat went up the keel for the last time. Knees located..
Before waxing..
I'm thinking of putting the railing down at the end of the hull, it will be fragile..🤯😲

Thank you very much Silverman. Thanks for the like! 😇
I have been thinking for a long time about finishing the connection of the front stem according to Witsen..
Replica of Barents' ship..
So I added it. The cuts were made with a 0.15 mm thick razor saw, and 0.09 mm black paper was placed..
Klinkbout will be added after grinding..
And now really a balcony..

Channels glued..
I created reinforcing knees. System ala marsalv...😇
The elbows will be reinforced with 0.5 mm pins. Finally wax..

Channels. I had to measure their width so that the ropes would not rub against the railing, because what is painted in the plan does not agree.
Channels secured with steel pegs..
So far dry..

Thank you for your input and thoughts. Building models according to plan or their historical accuracy is a dilemma that every builder must face. Fortunately, nowadays there are already enough quality plans.
I waxed the railing, covered the part where there would be other equipment..
There really isn't room for a Pin Rail on the aft deck on this plan..
Preparation for channels..

Well-meaning criticism is appropriate, from a person with your experience, Ab is beneficial.
I know from the beginning that the plan of this ship is not good, the authors drew from more sources.
The pins in the side railing of Dutch ships can be seen in the pictures, I found a debate on the Czech forum and there the most detailed picture of a Dutch warship - EENDRACHT from 1655 by van de Velde, he has pins in the railing.
Another warship..
So the small possibility of placing them on warships was possible !?
The Dutch double deck according to the model in the book Der Hollandische Zweidecker von 1660-1670 by Heinrich Winter also has pins in the railing, here this model by Alexander Bielov..
I build the model as competitive, here the main consideration is the agreement with the plan, every change must be documented. So I'm looking for historical data..

Ondras71 reacted to Steef66 in 16th-Century Spanish galleon by Apxeos - 1:60 - from 3D project to ship model
Nice build, If you changed the name earlier I would find it before I finished mine. There are a lot of things in your log I couldn't find and I had to improvise.
I will follow your build.
My log you can find here https://www.modelbouwforum.nl/threads/bouwverslag-spansk-galeon-billing-boats-463.268136/

Ondras71 reacted to DaKea90 in Berlin 1674 by Strelok - 1:100
The wood has arrived and I want to show it to you - kind of like a teaser and a sign, that this log is not dead 😅
To the right is Tanganjika-wood for the deck planking. In the middle is nut wood for the hull planking and details and to the left is also nut wood for the mast.
I fear the hull to be a bit dark, but I really like the orange tint of the Tanganjika-wood and the contrast it forms with the nut wood.
Unfortunately, work keeps my busy, so I don't expect to start the Berlin in the near future ☹️

I think this ship would be fantastic to see in unpainted wood. I also wouldn't worry about whether or not the plans are 100% accurate, as no one will be able to prove they are wrong anyway.

Thank you Tony
The first part of the railing is finished, the system of sliding the hollow posts on the pins works..
Reinforced with long pins..
Further work, installation of the top mirror plate..

Ondras71 reacted to No Idea in Le Rochefort by No Idea - 1/24th Scale - First POF Build
Hi Clogger its not to far off now but I'm going to make the transom timbers first the same way Adrian has in his book. I will be making a jig so that things are nice and square too.
Not much done today as I really needed to give my room a really good clean as I've been making quite a bit of dust. I've tidied up the sternpost rabbet so that it has a better transition. I've also just been going over what I've done so far to make sure nothings been missed.

Ondras71 reacted to No Idea in Le Rochefort by No Idea - 1/24th Scale - First POF Build
I got some more done today - you will be relieved to know that I go back to work tomorrow so my updates will be at my usual slow rate of building!
The parts that were previously fitted dried OK but.......I do have a bit of a gap between the stem and the apron. I tried to scribe these parts together but it didn't quite work out as I had hoped. Its only a small gap and on my next build I'll learn from my mistake.
I've now cut the stem rabbet which is time consuming but also really pleasing. I learn't on my last build that getting the rabbet right makes the planking just that little bit easier. I have noticed that I need to do a little more work on the stern rabbet so I'll have a look at that in the morning.
I did make a mistake when I started to cut the rabbet. I marked it out far too wide and luckily realised this after I had cut it about 1 1/2 down the stem. I stopped and inlayed a repair piece and then started again once dry. There's a picture of the repair which obviously only I know about and I'm not going to tell anyone else...............oh hang on a minute 🤣
I feel like I'm starting to get somewhere now - Mark
