I always thought that that was what a wedding ring was. An expensive detecting device that tracks your every move.
I don't think that was what OC meant Carl

I don't think you need to worry OC. I am pretty certain that there are people watching who will be able to pretty much help you through almost anything you need. Plus I suspect that you probably already have most , if not all the skill you will need to get it done.

    Superstructure (cont)

The kit does not provide accommodation ladders but when I checked the BlueJacket 1/192 Merchant Ship PE fret that I had bought a while back there were 2 of them on there which fit fine on this build:

The remaining details were the engine room skylight, pelorus’, sidelights and the incline ladders. The kit provides solid-backed britannia ladders but I prefer the look of PE. I have a nice set from Tom’s Modelworks which have worked fine on 1/192 warships but they were a little under scale for this build - too narrow and a little short. Fortunately the BJ PE fret I just referred to has plenty of ladders that are more than long enough, just trim them to fit and they are good to go.

Next up will be the lifeboat davits and their handling gear.

I decided to add most of the fittings to the deckhouse at this point, working from top to bottom. The Stack and cowl vents went on first:

The open conning station was made up of a kit-provided grading, fittings and the railing and sunscreen supports were fabricated out of wire. The canvas sunscreen is painted paper with some pinpricks around the edges to imitate where the tricing would have gone:

I’m adding this photo for anyone who decides to build this kit. The instructions say to add the aft gun tub supports but do not show them on the plans. After some online photo research and looking at the inclined ladder placement I decided this is the best fit - the large opening needs to go inboard to allow for the ladder and leave enough along the outboard and aft deck edges to allow PE railing to be placed.

The 03 level is basically done except for the railings which I will leave off until the build is almost done because it is a lot easier to dust the model without those in the way.

Almost done-   Just need to add the jackstaff forward and the flagstaff aft, and she’ll be finished.

A few notes about the masts:
The mainmast was made by cutting up the kit part, converting it to a tripod was done using some styrene rod pieces of various diameters.
The foremast is the kit part. Both masts have the yardarms from the GMM Detail set.  The rigging is EZ line- I wanted something that would be durable, and the elasticity should provide that.
In hindsight, I think I should have done the antenna wires in a smaller diameter line- but too late for that now!

I do plan on making a cover over the holiday break....

After 9-11-2001, the US saw the need to implement COOP (continuity of operations) and COG (continuity of government) plans across the entire united states. Every state and local government organization are required to have up to date and current COOP-COG plans in place and to have personnel who are trained and qualified to run (ICS) incident command system structure/systems. Part of the US government's overarching plans include an acronym "bible" which every local and state government must utilize to ensure we all speak the same language and can understand one another.

I would be better off  putting a patch over the admiarals  eyes  - all four of them  - two front two back,     you know the scenario  "I can see what you are doing"    lol.

I got lucky Yesterday evening ... I did what OC needs a hand with ... started rigging, in my case the funnel. Starbord side has been done as wel as rigging the davits on that side. Took me long enough ... two hours for four threads, hardly visible with the naked eye ...

Tried some angles so you could see at least something ...

The USN is pretty good at turning acronyms into words, too. CNTRA is Sinatra? But yeah, we do like those acronyms.

I would think given the time period that it was possibly a local gun control range finder for either that turret or possibly both of them. If I am looking right these are the stern most turrets. There may be another "antenna" located somewhere forward but not on the turret roof.

It could also be a radio direction finder. It will be interesting what someone with real knowledge comes up with!

Given the way the two turrets are aimed it looks like it is not working all that well anyway.
