Good to know. But I’m only going to armour plate the sides of the hull and leave underneath alone. I think it will add a nice element to the hull.

Looking good!   Just got my first shot today.  One of my sons is married to a pharmacist, so she has been on the lookout for me.  They had 35 doses at her pharmacy that had to be administered today or tomorrow or they would be spoiled, so I rushed in & got`er done.
    No ill effects.

keep at it Jack......you'll get one soon

don't know about that CD.......she's still an ugly duckling to me     she won't start looking good,  till I can finally get some paint on her.    with all that's gone on today,  all I've really been able to do,  is some work on the cannons for the Agilis.  thanks for the good word and the likes....more soon

good you got it......live long and prosper

    Well, frustration with photoetch....

Sky Lookouts..... The Gwin had them still installed until after Midway, they were removed after as they were effectively useless compared to radar detection. Radar was capable of locating and vectoring aircraft before they ever got in range of the binoculars of the sky lookouts....
So, what is a sky lookout?

They are binoculars mounted to a swiveling rotating frame so they can track aircraft and ascertain position angles on them relative to the ship for antiaircraft purposes.... AS you can see from the pics they consist of a pedestal with a bearing angle indicator, a U shaped base frame which swivels around the indicator for direction, and a second frame mounted to the first frame to indicate elevation angles which has a pair of binoculars mounted to them.... The third pic is the kits pedestal parts, so small I can't even get the camera to focus on them..... The two U shaped parts are Photo Etch and needed to be bent into their shaped before being glued to the pedestal.....  I was bending the last binocular mount and sproing! It decided to go walkabout... I think it finally found where the carpet monster resides....
One second it was there in the jaws of my pliers the next, right before my eyes, it disappeared...

The size of these parts.... Smaller than the wire I'm going to use for rigging......

Unfortunately, Dragon didn't give any spares, so she won't have her sky lookouts in place....

Well, I know that after her return from Midway, They were removed from atop the pilot house when they installed her 9 20mm guns... I do still have the pedestals and windshields so unless you know what your looking at it will appear that something is there.... Even if it didn't disappear, you would still need a 3.5x magnifier to see them....

This is becoming a frustrating learning experience.......

The only problem with that is almost all we have to go with today is pictures like you posted of the RESTORED surviving cars. A lot has been done to most of them to return them to racing condition for running in a number of historical events each year but in many ways they have also been restored as show cars with a little extra attention to the bling factor here and there. They are also limited to the look of the parts still available. This is most often seen in the tires they have to run.

Detail on top of detail. The kit that keeps on giving. You seem to have it well in stride though Craig.

I have seen pictures of a couple of other builds and I think I agree with you. While much of the engine and stuff on the real cars were either black or at least dark there would have been silver braded lines and probably colored spark plug wires and possibly some color coded plumbing for other things like brake lines and such, say metallic blue braiding instead of silver. Even the magneto could be two tone instead of just plain dark.

I already got bit there once, (Houston) and have been trying to resist two more for at least two or three years now. It's horrible when there is only one option for something you would really like to do, and it is the most expensive!

Personally, I would rather have not at this time, but for her to get hers I had to get mine as well.... so yeah I've had my shots, wooff wooff.......

It happened kinda fast, no one would give her an appointment claiming they were full, so she called around for a couple of days... she got a referral to a patient coordinator at a local hospital who put her on a waiting list, a week later, they called her to come in and was asked if she had anyone around her.... Yeah me.... We live alone, her and I, so for her to get hers I had to get mine..... The rules are funny here in Washington...... (but what else is new)

    AMEN!

I've been resisting this one for 5 years now, (not really, was waiting on a BWN USS Brooklyn, (easier to convert) Nary a sign of one for 5 years now so I finally broke down and bought ISW)

And yeah, it's like they are deliberately leaving the Brooklyn's behind, working up everything else though even if the Brooklyn's are the more historically important models.... They were the forerunners of every modern cruiser built for the US Navy....

Thank for the links, they don't really show the area I need but do show a lot of other details. I have the Anatomy Of The Ship book too and there's no pictures or plan drawings of the area in question however, I did find an incredible 1/72 scale Gambier Bay build on  Model Warships by a gentleman named Bill Waldorf. In the picture below I circled the area I'm talking about in red. Not sure if Bill took some artistic license or if what he did is accurate...either way, it works for me.

Here's the link for anyone who's interested, hopefully it's alright to post a link to another site ModelWarships.com Review

Oh,    If your still going to have a go at doing some armour belts  I would do them before putting your prop shafts on  (like I didn't)   it will help tp get a smoother run - nothing in the way.

Too bad on the 1/350 stuff. Possibly look at four rail PE sets and consider cutting window frames from them. Don't know.

On your present build I still think you were right by putting the thick part on top! Good luck with both the davits and eyesight.

I personally blame the makers of the PE. It is obvious in the pictures that the top rail is nice heavy polished wood and stands out as such. It would also be obvious to anyone who has ever taken a cruise on a ocean liner. They should design their expensive after market additions accordingly.

Is there any possibility that the 1/350 PE for the Entex Titanic would fit? There are a lot of salon windows in that set.

Possibly another source would be Old Model Kits. They offer an amazingly expensive resin 1/350 Normandie that is supposed to have two sheets of PE. Maybe they would be willing to sell you just the PE sheets if they include what you want.
