I'm going to the hobby store today! No  more dropping-the-part fears!

I spent the day going over the logistics of switching over to building and rigging the spars (yards). Good old Constructo gave me the exact amount of eye bolts to make the foot ropes. I can't drop one and lose it on the floor, now. I've also had to order more micro drill bits since I broke so many up until now. In checking the plans I realized if I placed the holders Constructo designed for the studding sails spars they would extend only a tiny bit, so I've redrawn the plans so they'll extend enough to actually hold a studding sail if I want to install one or more. Lastly I broke out my wood working gear so I can manufacture the spars. I do not have a lathe, so I shall taper the spars with a plane and sand paper. It's time consuming, but I can get good results.

Rich, the main issue I had with the spars was learning how to turn the ends down to toothpicks without breaking them. I actually used my full size lathe in doing them. Made turning them to size quicker once I learned how to handle them.

My ship on her new stand.

Okay...okay...enough stalling....I'll start on the yards tomorrow!

Here's the stand with a coat of varnish and a "Constitution" sign. I like the two tone effect. It compliments  my ship's wood colors.

You'll obviously notice I'm doing anything but starting on the yards, sails and running rigging?

Well, I fnally got some time in the shipyard. A little rusty for sure...probably need some "relative bearing" grease to get m old fingers started - as the Bo'suns used to ask for. Working on chains for the Foremast deadeyes. Not as neat as I would like, and not lined up the way they should, but it's a start. I might come back and redo them or not..probably later on in the build. So I'm going to be going all the way around the ship and get these done. Here's the start, I soldered some o f the components with the resistance solderer and Ca'd them to the channels and hull with brads:

Getting pretty close to starting on all the deck furniture, but every time I look at the plans, I find some detail to add that's easier when the deck is clear.

I did put in the 4 freeing ports (on the inside). One is visible on the far left side of the bulwark in the second picture.
Haven't decided if I will make them visible on the outside with incised outlines and small hinges, but I suspect I will.

Instead of painting the area black that will be under the skylight, I put in a "picture" from a 3d modeling program. Not much if any will be visible, but it was fun. I'm going to be using very thin rod/wire for the skylight so some of this, at least forward, may show.

I'll probably mount a compass in the aft end of the skylight (on top of the virtual beams) as shown in photos of the vessel. Certainly won't show, but I'll know it's there.

Put the scupper pipes in as well, just for fun.

Thanks to John for technique for lettering, which I was worried about.
Done in a black text block in Microsoft Word, then cut out and applied with decoupage glue and coated with 2 thin coats.

I "glazed" the stern ports with a product from Micro Mark - a white viscous liquid that can be drawn across small windowed areas and dries clear.

I ended up doing the 3 starboard and larboard ports the same way, but without the circular frame.

Next is Deadeyes and Chainplates. Starting with the starboard Foremast working my way to the Main and Mizzen both port and starboard. I think now is a good time to install all of them since, #1 It needs to be done, and #2 they'll be available when needed without having to interupt the flow of things. I use brass wire, proper deadeys and solder and blacken the brass. Once the chain plate is blackend insert th ends into the pre drilled holes in the channels, wrap the brass around the nails in the kit, drill the hole and glue in place. Should look something like this.

Hi Rich, I have just discovered your log of the Conny. I built the Revell plastic one. It only took 45 years to finish, but I got there. I'm currently building the CW Morgan, but follow the Conny Club as much as I can. Looks really good.
