OK, well actually a milestone has been reached today.  With the exception of the Davits, cranes, and Boat Slides that will attach to the outside of the hull and a couple of very small details yet to be done, the deck structures/furniture is complete.  I'm including quite a few pictures for documentation to show the hull structure complete.  I have not decided on the order of adding the Davits and other components yet, and contemplating starting the masts.  Geez I hate saying that...... you guys are relentless.....

A small update for today.....a Harpoon.  First I turned down a dowel to 1.6 mm then added a lance piece of .8 mm brass rod without the tip at this point.  These will be stowed under the Shelter/Boat Bearer roof and the ends can't be seen, so I'm not putting them on these 6 Harpoons.  The ones in the boats will have the tips.  I hope to finish the Harpoons and racks tomorrow, and possibly the roof for the Shelter.......don't get excited Sjors ..... I said "possibly".....Things get hectic this week with the Holidays so I don't know what I'll get done, except I'm going to try.......so here is one Haroon, photographed next to a dime for scale....

Yes Augie, there are 7 boats, but since you didn't read my previous posts...I'll repeat them just for you......2 of them are turned upside down on the Shelter Roof so they don't get harpoons.....therefore 5 sets of davits.....for 5 upright boats to be built later....lol.....gotcha!

So - progress continues (SLOWLY!!!).  Too much time on the road this month, but home now through mid-January (with any luck, at least...)

Moving along with the rigging - one backstay left to install on the main mast and then start belaying all these lines.

The doublings get rather busy at this scale!

Not the best shot, but gives you an idea of the number of lines involved even at this small scale!

Once I get the lines all belayed will start on the ratlines - using fine embroidery thread to try and stay in scale.  WIll be putting them on about 3/32" apart.  I may go blind in the process......

For a quick update (no pictures at the moment), I've been working through the running rigging, and have the bowspirit rigging all in place.  I have the fore course and fore topsail yards up, with the lines pre-installed.

I thought that it might be easier to work from the bow of the ship to the stern, and pre-install as much of the rigging as possible.  I also delayed fully fitting the fore mast backstays so that my sausage fingers would have a little more room to maneuver on the foremast running rigging.   Let's just say I'm going cross-eyed trying to keep track of the spaghetti of lines hanging off the fore mast right now.

The kit's instructions have you install each of the yards, then add the lifts and buntlines, then the sheets and clew lines, and then finish with the braces.  I thought it might be easier to complete the rigging per yard as each yard is installed (minus the braces on the fore and main masts, which I will just do at the end all at once), and work my way up the masts and from bow to fore mast to main mast.  Not sure which way is better, but I almost feel that minus the tangle of lines, it ultimately is easier to do it my way.  We'll see what happens.

For those building the kit (and probably others), the kit tells you to pre-install the blocks on the masts and the yards, without forewarning you that some of the blocks need to have the standing end of the running rigging attached to them.  I had to remove and re-install the lift blocks for the fore and main yards and for the spiritsail yard, which was annoying.  I had to do the same for some of the blocks on the bowspirit as well.

Overall, it's amazing how much line even a small brig like the Badger was fitted with.  I love the look as more and more line is attached, but I can see why many choose to just do admiralty type models

Thanks very much John and Kester.  Kester, I appreciate the kind words.  I still have the spanker to put together, which is going to be a bit of a challenge given its shape and the fact that it's lashed to both the mast and the gaff. I had one of those "ah ha!" moments in the shower a couple of weeks ago (where I tend to do my best thinking), so I think I might have come up with a potential solution.

Frank, thanks so much for the kind wishes!  Best wishes to you and your family this holiday season and new year.  I wish the same to all my other friends here on MSW!

To all who have visited my shipyard, thanks for your like votes, it's much appreciated.

@ Freek, so, what's wrong with your gun, looks pretty good to me

@ Ian, yes, that's a serious piece of armament alright.  Thanks for the URL, impressive.  I have also wondered about the same thing, did those guns not corrode and freeze up?  But I guess subs being on the surface most of the time the crew would keep them well lubed and smeared in with a rust prohibiter.  They may even fire a round or two to clean the barrel.

Well, today I started on gun number 2.  Tomorrow I'll start shaping it to make it look acceptable.  Then I'll have add some of the details to it, nothing fancy, just enough.

I have also continued working on the lower conning tower.  All the frames are up and the top "longeron" on the starboard side is glued on.  It's now ready to be faired.  Tomorrow I'll do the port side and then the cross beams.
Pretty soon I can put the sides on and start making the three doors on the port side.  There is still a lot of detail stuff for this portion of the build.

Well, this is it for today, sorry no pics, just a lot of detail work

Another small update.  The additional planks for the first layer of the main wales have been added.  In addition, the sweep ports have been made and installed.  I used some boxwood I had for these that I got from Jeff @ HobbyMill.  Really nice stuff.  Holds a good edge.

Also fabricated the ballast ports, this time using basswood.  It's the larger port in the center.

Sanded her down pretty smooth and will now add the 2nd layer of the channel wales after which I will be ready to apply the first coat of stain.  The 2nd layer of the main wales will be added after that as those are to be painted.

    Pictures !!!!!
Between work I can do something.
Placed the upper shrouds and tops deadeyes on the mizzen mast.
    Make the first ratlines.
    I can see that I don't have the " touch " again.
When all the ratlines are there ,maybe I change this one.
    All the beginning is difficult......

Thanks for all the "likes" guys.  Greatly appreciated.  Whoaaaaaaa all of you........got a lot to go yet before we get airborne.....Remember I have 5 whaleboats that have to get hung somewhere.  So I have davits and boat slides to build and  incorporate into the hull structure.  I'm not going to do the boats yet, but have to get all this piddly stuff done as well as put the roof on the Shelter/Boat Bearer.......which gets 2 more boats turned upside down and lashed to it.....don't need to detail the inside of them ...thankfully.  So calm down it's gonna be a while yet.....
